10-4. knew about Chaney holding out as long as he did. but was there any candidates blocked? for whatever reason i seem to remember a lot of angst about briles potentially be the hire, and ultimatley we said "no" to pruitt on that one. maybe the same on Freeze, but that kinda went on to be a moot point since he got the Liberty job......
i don't know how much that maters, except in the grand scheme of things, if "pulling hte same direction" is important, then it seems we're still not there.....
It wouldn't surprise me if football was shut down in the next couple of weeks. I don't know that we play many, if any more games.I think that would be enough to do it....Vandy will be winless when we play them and if Pruitt loses to them there is no way Fulmer can keep him. If we lose to Vandy this year...that will be worse than the GaSt loss last year imo.
So you are saying Pruitt could still get fired but Fulmer would be out as well?Hope everyone is well. @InVOLuntary someone on the board told me about about your mother. I was so sorry to hear that. What a tough road that was--for her and your family.
For anyone who cares-- Pruitt was hired with the implicit agreement that he would be given five years. There was consensus that UT couldn’t afford to make another coaching change in less than five years and that the new HC needed five years to rebuild a badly damaged program. Pruitt was Fulmer’s guy, and his hiring came with the expectation-- and assurance-- that Fulmer would use his experience to help Pruitt scale the learning curve, and together they could return UT to respectability within five years. If not, then UT would be recruiting well and be in a good position to make the necessary changes.
Pruitt wasn’t ready for a job as big, difficult and demanding as UT’s. Being a great DC doesn't make him good enough at the many facets of the HC job and he won’t be good enough for a while, if ever. Many donors and board members felt that UT should hire an experienced HC for a massive rebuild with high expectations and an impatient fanbase. Fulmer went way out on a limb for Pruitt, and UT unified behind him. Pruitt has been a disappointment and he’s a divisive personality. He’s pissed off a lot of people, so UT is no longer unified.
The easy solution is what needs to be done eventually is best done immediately. But Sexton negotiated a sweetheart deal for Pruitt, and Fulmer doubled down. Fulmer is tied to Pruitt, so don’t expect him to do anything except publicly stand behind this coaching staff. And don't expect a lot of donors to be okay with that.
Buying out assistants with longer-term contracts would be throwing money at the wrong solution. Either fix the problem or ride it out another year or two.

Schools serious about winning won’t be deterred by Sankeys encouragement.UT was pulling in the same direction. Randy Boyd is a great president. He rescued the Barnes situation. Donde Plowman is the best chancellor we've had in a while. Phillip Fulmer loves UT and is good with donors. UT has just gotten itself into another very unfortunate situation with very unfortunate timing.
The feeling seems to have softened on Freeze... but Sankey has not been a fan in the past and has "encouraged" SEC schools to pursue other options. The passing on Briles was mutual.
Fans have short memories until it is clearly obvious a coach is done. We have reached that point. Neyland will not be full any game next year. They'll find enough fans for this season. A pandemic leading to limited seating will take care of that. Next year, fans with short memories and full of hope will return to Neyland Stadium. We'll see how he does next year. The absolute soonest we see a change is after next season, IMO. I don't see anything changing that.
I thought that if nothing else we would have an elite defense. Then if he could just manage to get the OC hire right we would be okay. I was wrong. Our defense is terrible. He can't manage the defense and be a HC at the same time, clearly. He also hasn't hired a good OC. So we just aren't good anywhere.
fair enough.UT was pulling in the same direction. Randy Boyd is a great president. He rescued the Barnes situation. Donde Plowman is the best chancellor we've had in a while. yes, it will.Fans have short memories until it is clearly obvious a coach is done. We have reached that point. Neyland will not be full any game next year.

Even if fully deductible, still only saving 30% or whatever. Maybe he doesn't want to give 70% of 5 or 10 million away for something he doesn't care about. Why is it that Ergen feels that way? I wouldn't think he'd care where the money went, isn't it a taxable donation if given to the school?
i bolded those parts for affect.....i realize i'm leaving some context out.Best case scenario is they shut down the season. Keeps SC and Auburn from firing their coaches. Everyone goes into next year with the same coaches. We keep our recruiting class. And then if Pruitt fails, we can fire him in 2021 and hire Freeze. I’m hoping for a full blown shut down.
has it been, any year over the past 10-15, really? lol.The preference clearly is to stop the bleeding and buy at least another year. But when people get mad, fingers start pointing and enough donors have had enough, anything is possible. Whatever UT does, it's highly unlikely everybody will be in agreement. In the end, what people want to do and what they actually do may not be the same thing-- at least not this year.
No chance. Butch we fired after going 4-8. People would not have come after a season like that. Same with Dooley going 5-7 in year three. Year four would have not had many fans. If we win 3 games, we are not filling up Neyland stadium. Let’s just pray they shut everything down.yes, it will.
whlie we're all on here doing our thing, the overwhelming majority of TN fans have no idea this conversation is even taking place.
we'll finish the recruiting cycle, move on in to spring again, and there'll be hope for next season as we all start to talk about who's coming back and all the talent from the past two classes become "veteran". we'll talk of lesson's learned and how we won't repeate the same mistakes....again.
and we'll be all ready to roll....
until the other shoe drops....again....and we'll have this same conversation, give or take a few things.
or, we have a great saeason and all is forgotten.
all joking aside, there are a lot of attributes Pruitt has that are very fulmeresque...some good...some not so good.....but there is a lot of similarity between two imo.Well...explains why we’ve returned to Fulmer ball.
run right, run left, run middle, punt
Maybe Pruitt will figure some things out in his next 2 seasons here.
