Honestly I don't want to see Neid or Felton moved from LBs. I'd much rather Pruitt keep as many of his guys on staff as he can.

Weinke needs to go. I'd also be weary of Friend. But I've seen the LB group improving more than any other group on defense. Crouch and Banks look better this season than they did last season and Henry T has also improved a ton. I also think Felton/Nied both can recruit even more studs at that position group.

Linebackers are way worse.

Not sure I'd want another high rated QB prospect with a QB coach who can't develop him anyway. Better QB play and the team winning more will bring us new recruits anyway.

Simpson has tennessee influences all around. He comes if UT shows life. Hire freeze and still get him.

from the sound of it, we may not get Ty regardless. and i don't know that you hold on to a coach that you think you want to fire, in hopes that a recruit comes to your school 2 cycles from now.

plus, there's plenty of time to build a relationship with the new qb coach/oc....and pruitt is still gonna be here.....

if they think Weinke is a liability....let him go.....

I’m going off what I heard on the podcast. To be fair, I don’t think weinke has had anything worth a to work with while he’s been here. You can put lipstick on a pig and it’s still a pig, y’know. VQ explicitly said Ty loves Pruitt and Weinke. Like LOVES them. Not saying you retain a guy just for one player, but he’s not the first that’s said he loves Weinke. There’s gotta be something to that more than them throwing the bag

You're looking at this wrong. Taylor & Bituli graduated the group with no off-season wasn't suddenly going to be better than they were last season. But compared to this season and the rest of the defense I think it's hard to argue with Henry T being the best defensive player (LB) and the production numbers are highest in the LB group over any other group.

Henry leads the team in tackles, TFLs.
Crouch is 3rd in tackles
Bennett is 2nd in TFL and sacks
Deandre leads the team in sacks and tied for 2nd in TFL

i hear ya. it's still not a reason to hold on to Weinke two years too long, if it's determined he's part of the problem in developing QB's the past 3 years.

This is the move that no one is talking about. I you don’t (or can’t) get Freeze you could make that move and this staff would be elite on both sides of the ball. Dave Bartoo is an analytics guy that I follow and he has Long as a top tier OC while Chaney is a career bottom tier OC (third worst in the conference rn). Plus Long runs an offense with a reasonable tempo that will play well with CJP. If there is a hope for Pruitt to rebound this is it. Chaney just isn’t good enough even with good QB play. Oh also Pruitt needs to be calling plays on D. He is top 5 in the country at it. Playcalling is an art and it isn’t as simple as running the same system with the same players = the same result.

100% agree on the play calling. I don’t buy into the whole ‘a HC needs to be a HC’ sort of speak. You see HCs at every level calling their own plays on offense. No reason a defensive coach can’t do the same.

Yeah I agree. But also it may not be completely his fault either. He’s not had the best QBs to work with. That’s the hardest position to make chicken salad with chicken

I know people who have watched practices and are still around the program. They called Ansley being a** and a few other coaches too. VFLs like Chaney and know many other assistants are garbage. Truth is, we lost our best coaches and replaced them with subpar teachers.

Don’t believe everything you hear. Chaney is the scape goat. QB decision is 100% on Pruitt. We are kidding ourselves if you think many things change by hiring another OC and assistants. We keep Pruitt and things are only going to continue to get worse. That’s all I will say on it.

This is not true. Pruitt listens more to Weinke than Chaney. He is getting a lot of heat, but isn’t it weird how successful he was here before and at Georgia?

The truth is Pruitt wasn’t ready for this job. We are going to pay a lot more next year when he is fired than firing him this year. We are going to have assistant buyouts and new assistant salaries. Then big buyouts on those assistants to make matters worse. This is our chance to keep ourselves respectable. We will not be good for another five years if we keep Pruitt another year.

Well guys my wife is heading into brain surgery in a couple hours due to metastatic breast cancer from a couple years ago. She’s 35.

So sorry my man. There's never a good time for brain surgery but it sucks that it's so close to the holidays. Prayers sent for you and your wife as well as her surgeon's.

Somewhere along the way, I heard that Freeze has a good relationship with Ty's dad and that Ty went and threw up at Liberty's camp. If Pruitt/Weinke were let go and Freeze was brought in, I wouldn't worry at all about getting Simpson. If only Weinke goes, then yeah, it will be more of a fight, but I'm hopeful that this kid's UT influences will help the Vols win out in the end regardless of who's coaching at the time.
