Being a VFL is a terrible criteria for becoming Head coach here.
I would rather have someone that truly cares about the program lead it, than some random dude with “head coaching experience”.

Freeze is obviously the top choice but if we miss on him and a couple other obvious ones, we should hire Tee.

I think what is argued as “more palatable” is the idea that this team might be *close* to some version of respectability and only Pruitt and his guys (Friend and Weinke) are holding the program back.

For stability’s sake, promoting from within, and hiring a young, black VFL with certified recruiting chops, would give this program juice it hasn’t had since Kiffin.

But I think this is only a scenario that comes up if the first tier of prospective head coaches say they aren’t interested.

I’d rather roll with Tee than keep Pruitt or try out a coordinator from another school or a G5 guy (besides Napier and Chadwell.)

Understand the theory, but what I think is missing is the resolve Alabama showed in getting Saban. I want to see our University say, "We recognize where we have failed. We are tired of failing. We are prepared to do whatever it takes to end this pattern."

Instead we seem content to rationalize rolling the dice. It all sounds great, but so did all our coaches and players showing solidarity during the summer. Now it appears they would have been better off skipping the protests and practicing instead because they are still divided and appear to have forgotten how to play football to boot.

Say Freeze is off the table but you had your choice of these coaches. Pick one.

Matt Campbell

Luke Fickell

Jamey Chadwell

Billy Napier

Doc Holliday
Fickell no doubt. Urban has the most successful coaching tree and its not even close. The offensive scheme he has passed down is special.

We’re not Alabama. We’re not going to hire some version of Saban.

We’re going to roll the dice.

I get the Tee sentiment, but I would always trust experience (successful) over sentiment.

Call Scott Satterfield
He worked a miracle at Louisville last year.
Louisville has not done well this year - defense is terrible. But he has lots of NC, SC, GA, FL recruiting connections and runs a simple, effective, high scoring offense. He has track record of doing more with less.

Satterfield and Neal Brown are near the top of my list if they are interested. Satterfield might actually be my #1 realistic candidate.

He is a very good play caller. Very upbeat. Offensive is easy to learn and utilizes skill players well. Lots of receivers running wide open at AppState and Louisville. His teams also usually improve as the year progresses too

In year 2 at Louisville though, why would Satterfield bail there?

My top 3 are Freeze, Campbell & Napier

Neal Brown is a solid option too, I’d be cool with him.

Don’t buy the Chadwell hype so he’d be down the list.

UT isn't going to pay $15-$16MM+ to buy out coaches, plus debt service, to promote from within. If we had a quick fix on staff, internal shifts would have been made.
My thought is let ET go now and let Chaney finish the season out while we do a super thorough search

Welp...it finally happened..my wife started running a fever and coughing last evening so I took her to get the Covid test this morning and it came back positive. I have a little bit of headache and sore throat and that's about it. It was bound to happen sooner or later, we are both in health care and it honestly shocks me that it has taken this long to hit us.

Prayers appreciated that we are not among the unlucky ones.
Prayers sent my man. Stay safe and ride it out. Remdesivir is still the best drug out there for treatment. One of the guys I play golf with is taking the drug right now and he's doing really well. He's well into the mid 70's and most at risk but he's doing well so far.

You move on from Pruitt anyway. He’s god awful
Yes. I don't get the 'its either Freeze or give Pruitt another year' crowd. The dude doesn't have it. You don't keep him around to tank the program for another year. We've seen how that plays out. Plus, there are quite a few very solid candidates out there right now and at least 3 that have heavy ties to the state. I'm all for giving one of the very successful coaches at the P5 level a shot vs giving Pruitt another year. If we can't hire Freeze this year, then what makes anyone think we could/would hire 'insert big name HC' next year? We wouldn't. We'd just be picking from a new crop of P5 HCs.

This is the year to make a change, Freeze or no Freeze. All the P5 coaches with ties to UT just make the decision that much more obvious.
