Pruitt is a good football coach. He is one of the best DC’s in football. Still doesn’t mean he is cut out to be a head coach. He wasn’t ready for this job yet.

Pruitt was a good coordinator with heaps of talent on his side of the ball at every stop. His football decision making is questionable at times so I'm not sure how good of a coach he is.

I don’t think he’s the worst coach in program history. But he will likely oversee the one of the worst seasons in program history. And at Tennessee, that should be enough to push you out the door.

I don’t disagree. However it’s really now Apple to apples on the worst season record.

Did they stop caring after the Kiffin debacle? Hamilton hiring Dooley was the end?

If you think about it they haven’t had to care cause Phil was at the helm. When that ship started to sink they hadn’t had to deal with a search before, especially a Top 10 program like TN once was.

I don’t think they realized what it took to keep a program at the top cause Phil always kinda controlled a lot of it. When Phil was let go they were left with their thumbs in theirs butts. Then when you make one hire and he bolts after a year, you panic and scramble to save face and money instead of going out and spending the money the first time to get who you want and who can lead us to Championships.

Then it just spiraled out of control and then we became the laughing stock of CFB and a example of what NOT TO DO.

I think it’s gonna take them throwing 50-70 million at a coach kinda like A&M. But then the “Control” issue also remains cause in places like Fl, A&M, OSU, Bama, the coach has A LOT of control, here that’s not the case. It’s a toxic dynamic when you can’t do what you want with Salaries and coaches.
And believe me, coaches talk, and they know how it is here and from what I’ve heard most won’t come cause they are micromanaged to an extent.

So that HAS TO CHANGE, or we are gonna be 4-8 year end year out with a 8-5 ceiling. And that’s the cold hard TRUTH.

All of y’all know what is going on. It’s been said here numerous times.

Anyways, maybe things will change but for now it’s pretty much the same way it’s been for a decade. Phil is making headway but he still has PLENTY of obstacles.

It’s just because Hugh Freeze is backchanneling and of course we’re stinkin up the joint. He’s not the worst. Up there. But Dools got us smoked pretty consistently. Butch had the 0-8 year. I don’t remember anything pre 80s.

Actually it makes sense because Hyams was pressing him on it yesterday, saying State played with 49 and that was well before this came out

It isn’t, but outside the last 10 years you really have to dig to find truly woeful seasons of Tennessee Football.

Trust me, unless we miraculously find a way to beat Florida and TAMU, this is easily a top 5 worst.

I promise you we'll all be excited about whatever hire they make approximately 30 seconds after they start talking at the press conference.

Gotta be a proven coach that can win in the SEC. If they hire some coach doing decently in another conference, then to hell with it. We will be in the same boat in 3 to 4 years. We need someone that can win in the SEC. So... I doubt they hire anyone that excites me.

well color me shocked....lol.

There it is. Wrap it folks, we’re back to watching for our first decommit.

actually, i think if pruitt is around, stability probably helps quell some of the anxieties some current commits might have....maybe not all, but if he can keep the core of the class together, i'll call it a W. i think missing out on some of the 'names' we were trying to close on hurts enough. bring back the core of this roster next year, add some nice pieces from this class, and it won't be "all bad". lol.....i know how that sounds.

The only thing standing in the way of Tennessee hiring Freeze is Tennessee.

What are they afraid of?

Hurting the reputation of the program? It’s probably as low as it’s ever been right now.

Freeze failing? We’ve been mired in failure for going on 15 years.

NCAA issues? They’re basically toothless anymore, and we’ve been on de facto self-imposed probation for a while now.

SEC approval? Maybe, but they don’t seem to be big fans of ours anyway.

there's a significant opportunity for significant blow back for hiring hugh freeze when we stood on our pulpit and shouted down hiring Schiano.....i'd get familiar with the word 'hypocrite' just in case. that could be a black eye we're not willing to deal with, perception wise in the media or on the recruiting trail.

We need all but like 3 seniors to comeback next year.

i'd pretty much take all the DL and OL back right now....and feel good about it. lol.

If he was telling you what you wanted to hear, you would probably think he was connected to the program. Nothing he has said is illogical or outlandish. He is saying things that make sense given the recent history of hires and happenings at UT.

I would love for us to ditch Pruitt and hire Freeze, but if you look at the past which tends to be a good indicator of the future, it is unlikely to happen.

I'll gladly eat crow if I am wrong, but I doubt we are going to see Freeze on the sidelines next year.

i dunno, we've had some real winners in that category. gonna be hard to top losing to KY with a WR at QB or 2017.

but there's still a chance.....we'll see how it goes. lol.
