He doesn’t advance a program. Every 3-4 seasons, he coaches up an upset and gets a big raise. Then the program coasts on meh. Yes he’s safe. Like the boring IT guy who provides for the wife who secretly can’t wait for him to die.
Sweet lord I work in IT . Just caught the wife giving me a look out of the corner of my eye . It's happening.

Poster Bob on TOS said Fulmer is still fighting for Pruitt and that was about 3-4 hours ago. Time for Fulmer to pack his bags too.
I still think the under the radar extension Fulmer got was a parting gift. He resigns in protest over Pruitt's firing and retains a stand up guy image. Chess not checkers.

Playoff sucks. Can't tell me differently. Its 3 teams and one random lucky winner who gets to join them. And their prize for winning? Getting their eyes beat shut by the three most dominant programs these conferences have ever seen.

Throw in the 25 signing cap rule and tell me, how is anyone supposed to catch them? Who is gonna slow down Bama in the SEC? We've been saying this same crap for over 10 years. They will decide when they stop running this conference

Who is gonna challenge OSU in the B1G or Clemson in the ACC? Both have SEC caliber rosters loaded with talent the likes no other teams in their conference can match. Clemson just set a record for most consecutive conference championships. They aren't going away til they decide. And the NCAA? They don't care. These three are all cash cows.

We all opined for a playoff for years, self included. After seeing how it has worked out, I'd take back ap/coaches vote over this. What's the difference really other than having three automatic qualifiers now?

CFB is a very stale product. Apply that to teams with prospective coaching searches (i.e. Tennessee) and unless teams inside these three conferences are making a HUGE move that will overthrow the power inside their conference, what are they really doing other than playing for participation ribbons?

Ask yourself this question.. Does a Napier, Chadwell, Fickell, etc. type hire move the needle for you in terms of overthrowing Bama as the SEC power? Do you feel like they can beat them on a regular basis?

If the answer is no or there is unrest or doubt, then don't bother. After a few seasons of not getting over the hump they will just be fired anyhow. Because that's what its gonna take to ever move forward. We will never have the success we want to have with automatic losses built in every year. There's just no way around that.

"Make the covid financial loss impact pitch to Sexton and go get Gus and Will as DC. Clients who are sitting good with payments for several years... get them at discount and give them money for top notch assistants and turn things around.. if they want to coach and want to go to a place starving for winning with a passionate fan base, its Knoxville. For once we hire someone not on the UT tree that has proven he can win big in the SEC.. and he beat Saban THREE times.." -LWS
Sounds like a solid plan. Still not sure either want to coach next year and at a discount. So, JP supposed to meet with PF today. But wondering if that gets pushed back, because of funeral. OtH, was it matts say we would have an iterim going into 2021, so perhaps its done sooner than later---announced after the funeral.

Agreed. This why UT needs a Tier 1 - Grand Slam HOMERUN hire such as a Bob Stoops or Urban Meyer to try to go toe-to-toe with the behemoths IF the goal is to win championships. Do I believe they are going to hire a Tier 1 - Urban or Bob Stoops? No, they absolutely won’t.

So I move to Tier 2 - HOMERUN - Freeze / Kiffin with Muschamp or Mason as a DC. That combo can definitely be had and compete in all facets with Bama, UGA, UF.

Tier 3 coaches - “Double in the gap”, typically 7 win regular season with an occasional 8th thrown in every 2-3 years: Campbell, Fickell, Napier, Chadwell, Harsin, Marrone, O’Brien, Franklin, Mark Stoops, Herman, etc.). They are ok coaches but none that are going to compete for SEC championships. If you want a solid Richt-esque type hire to get you the occasional 8 maybe 9 regular season wins then be my guest and hire any of those guys. None of them will compete for the East year after year. 7 wins will be your typical ceiling. If that excites you then have at it. But if you want to compete for championships (start with SECE first) then gotta make a HOMERUN hire. None of those coaches are.

If it’s a Tier 3 coach then so be it. My financial support (which is very little) has already stopped. Hardly watch even a full half of a UT game. Only “UT time” actually wasted nowadays is on this forum. My son, who absolutely LOVES football, has no desire to go to a UT game and I can’t blame him. So we typically spend our time elsewhere on Saturdays now. UT has now entered Vandy status.

In car buying terms this is that really nice, late model, low mileage, Toyota Camry (4 door) that you get cheap. With the added bonus of having money leftover to buy those nice WeatherTech floor mats and the CupFone cell phone holder...

So very Tennessee..
So perfectly MEHHHHH...

I hear ya on a lot of this re the playoffs, but LSU did win it last year. It can be done by teams not named Bama, Clemson and OSU.

They need to expand it though. And in a big way. This year has shown that the bowl game model is outdated and ripe for replacement. Expanding the playoffs to the size of the FCS playoffs (24) would create more parity and be great for the game.

So is it accurate to say Fulmer gave Pruitt an extension without knowing we were giving an internal investigation, or did he know and not care? Because that's just stupid.

Then again everyone up top is stupid so who knows

Yep. The problem has been that since Doug Dickey and Joe Johnson retired the powers think they are intelligent. Stone cold losers and it is all in evidence for the entire nation to see. That's why they laugh at us and think we are delusional. They know. Again, my sole hope is that Randy Boyd rises above it and strikes a blow for excelling at football. He understands what is at stake, the business aspects, and sports. If not, expect this to continue and possibly get worse until some of the old die out and get replaced by younger people who are willing to do the right things.

The amount of season ticket sales next season if we hire Freeze would be insane. There’s your money back 👍🏼

I don’t see Freeze exciting the fan base much at all in terms of season tickets. This message board, maybe. But not real money spenders.

If Freeze were hired, who here that isn’t a season ticket holder already, would be persuaded to become a season ticket holder? Let’s say you want to get season tickets in a decent section of the lower level. Say X3, corner end zone, great view of the Jumbotron. That’s one of the more modest donation requirement sections - $500 per seat in donation, and another roughly $500 for the actual game tickets per seat.

So for your family of 4, how many of y’all parting with $4k if Freeze is hired?

Look, I’m not getting into a discussion, because honestly I don’t care. I stand by my original post.

I’ve gotten free tickets for the last few years, but I’ll deff part with 4K.

I don’t know how those things work but looking at Kiffin’s first season would be a good example. If they went up in 09, they would probably follow suit with a Freeze hire.

I’m not parting with that $ unless they hire someone like Bob Stoops or Urban Meyer. Gotta see a commitment to go after championships from them to get my commitment with as many incompetent decisions as they’ve made the last 12+ years. Freeze or Kiffin would be the closest thing to that though.

After watching Bama and UF last night - you would have to be blind to not see the differences with our roster, development, system and schemes with theirs. Some of you need to take back your Mehlen hate. Yeah, as he said of himself yesterday he's Clark Griswold. He's also a really good coach. The half time adjustments they made and resolve of the players was very impressive. You can build on that as a coach. You cannot build on the garbage we have seen year after year.

Now Jeremy gets to go back and fix Bama's leaky D without concern about all of the rest of the things you have to do as a HC. Great. At least he will not be in Knoxville except for a couple days every other year.
