No slam dunk hire.

Fulmer is making the case that keening Pruitt is better in the long run.

The power people who want Fulmer out are currently loosing.

Fulmer still has a lot more clout than most think.
Freeze, Chadwell, or Napier would take this job. Probably Gus too. Slam dunk

Why was I born into the era of UT football dominance?

If I’d only been born in 2008, this all wouldn’t hurt so bad. Mostly bc I’d be cheering for a winning team.

I took the 1990s for granted. Missed the 1998 NC game because I was deployed. Didn’t sweat it - thought there’d be more opportunities.

22 years later....

The SEC is going to rapidly descend into like 4 decent programs and then a bunch of absolute dumpster fires. I think coaches are opting out of wanting in this conference.

I think you’re right. I also think G5 programs being willing to pay 2-3 mil for a football coach is also hurting the P5 programs. If a coach can bank a couple mil a year without the stress of an SEC program would another 2-3 mil per year be worth it?

We run them out because they regress over those 3 or 4 years. I think if we were seeing a coach that started out rough, but continually progressed over those 3 or 4 years they would be retained longer. We haven't seen that in over a decade.

Agree to an extent but no coach continually progresses every single season. Only works that way in a perfect world. And I’m not defending Pruitt.

Name a coach besides Saban, Urban, Dabo and you’ll find seasons where they regress.

For instance, a few of the potential candidates:

Hugh Freeze? Progressed for 4 seasons then went 5-7.

Napier? Still progressing but can’t get much better at ULL than what he’s done so he’s destined to mix in a 9-3 or 8-4 season, which would be a regression albeit one you can certainly live with.

Gus? Followed up 12-2 in season one with 8-5, 7-6, 8-5 and has never sniffed that success again.

The alarming thing with Pruitt is we appear to have regressed from a starting point that was already mediocre. But most coaches don’t continuously progress.

Yep. And the playoff actually makes it EASIER to stay at a G5/lower P5 job. Why jump into a job where there are playoff expectations when 3/4 spots are predetermined every year?

Currie was fired while trying to court a proven winner. Fulmer will keep his job while promoting a proven loser.

Please don’t praise Currie. He used Gruden as a smokescreen for Greg Schiano. How dumb is that!

Just because people are upset at Fulmer doesn’t mean Currie was good. Good for him to hire Vitello. But other than that, he was a disaster.

Ice cream! It’s a sign!

No, because its not worth it due to recruiting. Waiting one more year means 2 average classes and we have seen how far behind that puts the team.

Solid recruiting with lackluster coaching hasn't been the answer either. We just going to keep rolling the dice until we get lucky or get serious and make a calculated hire for the first time in 15 years?

I'm at a point now where I just want them to take a different approach. But in the end all that really matters is we get the right guy. Whatever and however we get them I'm all in.
