COVID saved pruitts job. He’s using the best excuse possible. He would be gone in a normal yearThe worst part of all this is that your stewards of the program, including your HOF National Champion former coach, believe the caliber of this program is such that 3-7 in a coach’s third year is enough to seriously consider retaining him.
I have always put some stock in Phil’s insistence that he was about to turn things around with Tajh Boyd and a new OC.
Now I realize that he’s just so arrogant that he believes he’s always on the cusp of greatness, no matter the evidence to the contrary.
Crompton has said several times Fulmer never admits when he's wrong. Same way he was when he was a coach. He's worried about he's legacy this will damage it more than anythingFulmer puts his ego ahead of the health of this football program. Fulmer is destroying his legacy at Tenn. The downturn started on his watch and now he’s putting the final nail in the coffin.
Fulmer's biggest issue to me is he wants a coach that mirrors his football philosophies. Conservative on offense with a strong defense. We all know Phil's greatest success came with Cutcliffe on staff who would open things up from time to time. Especially with Peyton manning the QB controls. Sadly as most of us have stated repeatedly the way Fulmer and Pruitt want to win games doesn't work against the better teams without the luxury of elite talent. Even then as Saban has realized you have to be able to score and score in a hurry. There will always be programs out there that can match point for point. No matter how stout or talented your defense may be.Fulmer puts his ego ahead of the health of this football program. Fulmer is destroying his legacy at Tenn. After we lose to Pitt, no one is going to Neyland. Fans will be done. First game against a cupcake will help but after Pitt, everyone will be done.If Pruitt is indeed coming back, it will be interesting how this plays out. Do fans say screw it and Neyland is half empty and they lose millions. Millions more than they would have lost by kicking him tomthe curb? Or because of the Rona, fans are starved to get back in there? I bet the administration is counting on the later. It will only work if the team is winning. The first bad loss and they gone. This doesn't end well IMO. Once again we'll fire our coach one year too late and it will cost the AD his job.
They care about lining their pockets. Period. If the fanbase is done, they will make a change. If they think they can get one more year until we are done, then they will do that. The people running this program all believe they are smarter and better than every single one of us. They love this fanbases blind optimism and honestly stupidity. We are literally insane. Showing up to big games and expecting or hoping to win is craziness. Sorry that I know many people who have poured blood and sweat into this program and want better. Ones that go to UT games to sign autographs and do events because the University asks. But when they call they are not heard, they are told things are being worked out and they are doing what is best for the program when they really aren’t. I’m fed up just hearing about it and I know they are fed up with this program being a joke. I would take a staff of VFLs tomorrow. This team would not be the soft roll overs like they are now. They wouldn’t stand for it and would get every ounce out of those kids. Like I’ve said before, last year JG came off the field after a pick pouting and no one talked to him. No coach yelled at anyone. He said he wanted to snatch JG up and yell at everyone and couldn’t believe the lack of care.
