I don’t really mind Steele being on the staff, he actually helped save Gus’ butt for the last 3 seasons. It’s just weird IF we’re not keeping Pruitt.

It was the scheme. Lot of just getting in the way instead of mashing your guy. Jones and Hall went rogue and got reigned in eventually before career ending injuries finished the job.

Why do we have to make new coach Steele don’t make sense, let them hire there own guys

It's possible the administration knows that they are going to fire Pruitt, but they have to wait for the investigation to finish.

So they have picked a new coach. That coach agreed to Steele. Now they are locking up Steele while they wait for the investigation.

But, this would require careful planning and forethought.

So it probably just means Pruitt is coming back.

1. I think the fact that we have no idea what role or position Steele is taking is a huge sign that Pruitt's gone.
2. I'm happy to have Steele as long as he isn't the HC or being forced down the throat of potential candidates as DC. If they are going to use him off-the-field like Alabama's factory of misfit toys, then LFG.

Marrone already knows he’s the next coach and we are just waiting for two reasons.

1) cover our ass from being sued

and

2) making sure the players are back on campus when the news breaks

Wrong. There is a poll in the FF, that if it is a good sample of the larger fanbase, shows 80% of the fans would get behind a Freeze hire.

The AD won't do it though.

I think Chaney is much more capable than we’ve seen these past 2 seasons. Obviously, the limitations we’ve had at QB have played a huge role in where we are, but we’ve also seen what he’s capable of when he had Bray as a QB and a very good WR group. I think if there is a new HC and he is retained no one would have a better grasp on how our offensive guys would succeed better than JC. And despite what many on here might think, we potentially could be very dynamic on offense next season with Gray, V Jones, and Hyatt. We return a lot of good football players on the offense.

That’s the part that makes no sense to me. He’s been here two years under Pruitt. If Pruitt managed it that why would Chaney stick around? We’ve seen his offense at Tennessee before and Georgia roll up yards and points but not this time around. Hopefully he got what he needs to finally get back there

Chadwell has a Higher Ceiling but Lower Floor. Both he and Marrone are risks.

Agree and it makes zero sense to hire someone with a lower ceiling. Why would you hire someone that has no chance at winning the East, at least Chadwell could catch lightning in a bottle. The best Maronne will do is similar to Butch Jones tenure.

I know a guy with a high floor and high ceiling. Why is this difficult?

I like to think it is Chadwell and he readily agreed to Steele to be DC. Offensive minded coach who knows there is an advantage of having a DC that can call plays.

Another angle I haven’t seen mentioned. Steele taking this job satisfies his contract with auburn and he might already know he’s never really going to work here.
This just gets him his buyout

247 reported that Pruitt was part of the hiring process for bringing Steele in. That sounds like Pruitt is staying if he has input on hiring a coach like that.
