eh. that's why i go back to Fulmer wanting him. Steele was a finalist for this job 3 years ago. and he could get him cheap b/c of the buyout.

Steele's not a bad coach, he's a good recruiter, he's a vfl, and was willing to come here in an unnamed role to help fix this ish.

i don't know if it works or not, but i don't have any ill will about it. we could, and have, done worse when it comes to hiring staff members.

all i do know is hiring steele in the role he's currently "not" in, lol, doesn't provide any real clarity as to what direction we're picking here. lol.
He signed a contract with UT. He knows what his job is gonna be :cool:

Nott to beat a dead horse, but let’s go back to JG. Do we know for certainty it was Pruitt who kept trotting him out there or was he doing what Chaney wanted him to do?
Could change our whole perception of Pruitt and his perceived micromanaging?
Sorry if I missed that somewhere, but just curious.

HC Marrone/Chadwell
DC Steele/Ansley
DL Gardner
IB Steele
OL Felton
CB Pruitt

OC Gus
OL/QB Chaney
RB Graham
WR Tee
TE Ossovet

and they say it couldn’t be done....

Nothing will change my perception of Pruitt after GA St.

the easy answer is coaching and timing.

Urban Meyer at OSU, Saban at Bama and Swinney at Clemson. to a lesser degree, OU is in that mix though Stoops was a veteran coach, and they seem to have maintained somewhat with Riley there. Brian Day obviously has picked up where Meyer left off.

it's no longer a glass ceiling for other teams/programs with those 4 or 5 teams standing on the roof..... and the money is such that there are a lot of stakeholders that want to see things stay the way they are. between TV contracts, post season pay outs etc....the whole business of college football changed, big time. and there's really no incentive for it to change unless it just changes on its own, organically, as far as competitiveness goes.

The incentive is probably gonna come in the form of tv viewership. Not very many eyeballs watched the championship game compared to previous years. That translates to revenue for the people who signed these tv contracts and expect a ROI. Won’t be immediate change, but will come eventually.

LOL..... I love Steele he isn't afraid of anything. I mean the dude got into a fight on the sidelines with the late great Kevin Greene. I don't know about yall, but I wouldn't want any part of Kevin especially in his playing days .
Dang did not know that, much respect for Steele for that. Kevin was a freaking freak, all juiced up on roids.

That would work if Pruitt didn’t bench Bailey or a cold Maurer.

If they are not going to open the wallets for the best, at least hire a wannabe that can build a successful culture for the future that has an exciting O to get tails in seats. Steele is a D stabilizer and insider for the two years remaining of Fulmer's contract. So, check that off. If Randy and Donde can't figure out they need to change the culture of the program after what Clemson, LSU and Bama have done over the last three years - there is no hope for the BO. This program has tanked too far to recover anytime soon with another disaster at HC. They have to pick the one that can build the culture while fielding motivated players with an exciting version of football IMO. We will put up with growing pains if we can see it trending up. I like Chadwell from the list of realistic wannabes. I can talk myself into Marrone with the right OC. I will sit next season out if Pruitt returns no matter who they hire as assistants. Tired of losing and throwing up on my shoes.

Jimbo wasn't coming here, no high profile, successful coach is coming here. The only one who would consider it is Freeze, he's had marginal success at best and got his program in hot water doing it.

Unless your argument is we should pay 2 million dollar coaches on par with Jimbo then your point is moot.
No my argument is find an already proven coach and pay them. I don't know how hard it is to comprehend. I don't want Chadwell, I don't want Napier, I want a good coach that has a proven track record as HC.

What is your definition of a good coach?

A coach who inherits a mess of talent

Or

A coach that gets the most out of the guys he has
