I would sincerely hope we don’t have to have Steele as an interim because that would mean we haven’t been doing a damn thing behind the scenes preparing for the potential that Pruitt has to be fired. If we are that stupid then heaven have mercy...now if it’s merely optics where Steele runs ship for a day or two ok but if it’s a weeks deal then we truly are dumb. This should be a fire/hire, dump and pump. Not a start your search after you fire. I suspect Steele is someone current staff and whoever we have next are willing accept if there has to be a next

While I don’t necessarily disagree, what makes you think anyone can do that? No one has. Not one other coach in the country has figured it out.

Honestly UGA would have the best shot due to their recruiting but they’re handicapped by having Kirby as a HC.

What other team is even close? LSU last year was lightning in a bottle.

Nick Saban out smarted the game while everyone else is trying to catch up.

Sure, you’ll have other talented teams that can match up to Bama but when it’s all said & done, there’s nothing we can do about it until Saban leaves on his own. Whenever that is.

As good as Dabo is, I still wouldn’t even put him in the same category as Saban. This kind of dynasty will only happen once in a decade I’m afraid.

You either get Pruitt or Steele - Fulmer

Doesn’t want his legacy topped by someone else.

What has caused the concentration of great teams in college football over the last 10+ years? Why isn’t the talent more evenly spread out?

It won’t happen over night that’s a given. It’ll take a lot of work and recruiting but they aren’t untouchable.

If he wanted to be somewhere other than
The west coast I fully believe Chris Peterson can do it.

Funny how the 'flavor of the week' changes, or peoples opinions vary so drastically. We continue to talk ourselves into and out of coaches for one reason or another. Everyone bemoaning a potential Marrone hire, until Steele was hired yesterday, now that's worse. All while reminiscing how Deboard put up better numbers than Chaney, even though we were sure he was a horrible hire at the time. It's crazy really.

I won't pretend that the level we've fallen to is acceptable, but to say with certainty that anyone on our personal 'short list' of coaching candidates would guarantee a turnaround is not realistic. I will say, I'm encouraged that moves are being made and it appears a plan is falling into place. Maybe a run at a revamped staff with Pruitt as CEO is the plan? Haven't we been begging for that to be the case for the past two seasons? If a move is made, maybe pieces are being put in play for a Chadwell type coach? Maybe Phil is assembling his coaching staff so he can take back the reigns (making him the 7th current coach on the sidelines with a ring)? Truth is noone really knows. What is apparent is that the mob mentality is in full force as we bounce from coaching option to option. I hope is over soon as well, and once the dust has settled, it'll allow for us to begin to evaluate our thoughts on the decisions made.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if schools had people on the payroll who’s only job was to find the loopholes.

I don’t blame the kids for wanting to win.

One common denominator... playoffs
I saw where Clemson, Ohio St, Georgia, and Bama are favorites for the playoffs next year.

College football is no longer where one game can change your entire season. Now there is the eye test that can make up for the fact that you lost a game. As longer as you have the greatest concentration of talent you should be good. It gets the best teams in the playoffs and that's why all the playoff games are sooooooo close.

Exactly, narratives fall apart. We spend a lot on athletics, money isn't the issue.
Texas A&M wanted to be good and payed 10 million for a HC. We support our HC with a staff but we hire coaches who were making 2 mill and pay them 4. The biggest name coaches bring a 6+ million dollar price tag and I don't think we have serious made a run at any of them in our last 3 coaching searches.

LOL..... I love Steele he isn't afraid of anything. I mean the dude got into a fight on the sidelines with the late great Kevin Greene. I don't know about yall, but I wouldn't want any part of Kevin especially in his playing days .

But Kevin Steele the coach? I’d want every piece of him. 6-36 overall

TB saying Steele is going to be interim (once Pruitt is let go), until UT figures out a HC direction.

Also an interesting note, Toppmeyer did a dive into Pruitt’s contract and found that UT DOES NOT need to find Level I violations to fire with cause.

Another gem he took off this site. No wonder he works out of his basement

You can argue we have made bad hires, however the money thing hasn't been an issue.
