That Adams interview on Basilio today is frightening. We better hope the next hire is Chadwell. They killed my Marrone hope. He’s out. But they pointed out that UT never hires a coach with a winning record so he may be the guy .

chadwell or herman are our only options, and they won’t hire Herman HC of his personality

Honestly I can't decide if thats the best thing to do. I agree he hasn't done that well, but I do think there is a slight chance he can turn us around if some things go his way. Flame away.

Yeah it’ll suck PR-wise but look at MSST last year: started playing a whole lot better when all the quitters/negative thinkers left. They had like 50 scholarship guys and played damn well against UGA in Athens.

Only way he turns it around us if he hires an OC that's gonna really turn the offense loose, a fantastic qb coach and steele really helps him on defense. I don't hate pruitt. I really want him to he the guy but I don't see it happening.

Well that's just stupid... okay so those players like regressing, not getting better so they may have a chance to pursue the NFL, and like just showing up and going 3-7? Didn't Pope say a lot of players didn't have the right mindset or work ethic and were just half-assing? BYE.....

If those players are happy with where the program is and is headed, do we really want them?

I think Chaney was hamstrung with JG. If Bailey is the guy, I think he has a major piece to work with. Its so important for a team to have a good QB. I think HB can be that guy.

Could we be smart enough to do this? Or did PF give Steele the guarantee or impression he would be interim for a year as a tryout? I like the first option with Chadwell or even Herman already been worked behind the scenes. Or any good offensive coach. But I am afraid they are some trying to keep Pruitt while others are trying to force him out. Or that Steele has indeed been chosen as interim. The absolute worse thing would be to fire Pruitt after all this time and then conduct a coaching search with no candidates available that want to come to Tennessee especially if half their staff is already chosen. And do this very publicly like Auburn then keep Steele. While the media is talking about how much the fans want Freeze.

All good points. I know the top 3 in the batting order of the alumni board and they haven’t gave an impression that Steele is here to be the HC. It’s more about just having an adult in the program people could trust to be a steadying voice if job comes open.

The thing about this search is, it can’t happen publicly. The administration has kept everyone in the dark and then going to try and do a public search is a recipe for disaster. It’s going to take about 90 seconds for the fan base to be whipped into a frenzy for Freeze or Kiffin, even if they aren’t happening.

Then the program is going uphill again because the fan base will be disappointed in the hire. People under estimate what’s going on behind the scenes. There are a lot of angles and everything is being considered.

That’s shortsighted:

kids will be mad because they love their coach. That doesn’t mean they can’t come around to wanting to play for another coach just the same but if they are just kicked to the curb they would never get the chance to change their mind after the initial emotional response

Unless they already have a coach ready, I would rather keep Pruitt. There's no possible way for it to be a good hire otherwise. May not be anyway.
