All good points. I know the top 3 in the batting order of the alumni board and they haven’t gave an impression that Steele is here to be the HC. It’s more about just having an adult in the program people could trust to be a steadying voice if job comes open.

The thing about this search is, it can’t happen publicly. The administration has kept everyone in the dark and then going to try and do a public search is a recipe for disaster. It’s going to take about 90 seconds for the fan base to be whipped into a frenzy for Freeze or Kiffin, even if they aren’t happening.

Then the program is going uphill again because the fan base will be disappointed in the hire. People under estimate what’s going on behind the scenes. There are a lot of angles and everything is being considered.

I don't see any possible way for the fans to be happy.

kids will be mad because they love their coach. That doesn’t mean they can’t come around to wanting to play for another coach just the same but if they are just kicked to the curb they would never get the chance to change their mind after the initial emotional response

Its a privilege to be a Volunteer. Three and Seven is unacceptable. Don't want to be here, no one is going to lose sleep over players that own a Three and Seven record leaving the program.

I think Chaney was hamstrung with JG. If Bailey is the guy, I think he has a major piece to work with. Its so important for a team to have a good QB. I think HB can be that guy.

I hate to say it but I think Hooker comes in and starts and gives Salter a year to develop and then he takes over... with our current roster and OL dropping left and right, we are pretty much going to have to rely on a QB with Wheels....

Nothing groundbreaking, but everyone knows how safe Callahan is with statements. Just a couple quotes for those thinking this is over already.

On the Steele hiring meaning Pruitt is secure

On the other hand, Steele might have a chance of sticking around even if Pruitt isn't retained, so I don't think we can read too much into that either way. Steele might not know exactly how things are looking with the investigation.

Pruitt’s job status is in question and will be determined by what comes out of the investigation.

He also said some think he is gone. Some are not so sure.

Mostly find this all interesting because a handful on 247 have spent the past month treating people passing along insider/tos info of his hot seat status as if they were Qanon...just all made up on a message board and having zero basis in reality. Callahan never really came out and said anything to them basically stating "this a real possibility" until very recently. His attitude has shifted a bit.

I don't think getting rid of all the players that love Pruitt is going to help us get better than the 3-7 they managed. It's not going to help us get a good (just a good, not great, not championship caliber) coach. They have totally ruined any chance of a good outcome if they really are waiting on the outcome of the investigation to make a decision. Fans and players will all be furious!!!

Contrary to what many may think on here most of these players love Pruitt (at least according to everyone who has gone on record after leaving), so it wouldn’t surprise me to see mass defections if he was fired.
