The TV contracts make it that much more difficult. It would be very difficult to make UT football non profitable at this point.I believe that academic people want UT to be good at sports but that's not their main focus. I don't live in Tennessee, haven't for 25 years but I'm a huge fan of the Big Orange, so I don't have a dog in this hunt.
It appears UT is gonna keep trotting out this brand of football because the fan base has always continued to support it no matter how bad it is. That's not gonna change until the fan base unites and says "enough is enough". If you want their attention, figure out a way to empty the stadium on game day. There's power in numbers people. Stay away from the stadium. They'll get the message.
A great SEC football team is outstanding for boosting admission. Unfortunately, I don't know if the administration truly believes the juice is worth the squeeze on that front.
Personally, I would never support a boycott of UT football on the grounds of poor performance. The social justice cult stuff is different story.
If people really enjoy watching the team play and they don't really care deep down if they are any good, I'm not going to chastise them for it. It is your time and your money.
UT fans are like Cubs fans. I mean that as a compliment and as an insult. That loyalty makes it very difficult for the administration not to cut corners just because they can.
My advice would be to watch or not watch based on an honest assessment of how you value or own time and energy. That is the reason I won't be here if Pruitt is back next season. We will suck regardless, but I don't feel the need to watch a team I know will be poorly coached, fronted by an administration that knows he is a bad coach. But if I'm not watching, I'm not thinking about how that affects UT at all. Out of sight out of mind really.
