Both are great choices and we should be happy with either. They both have experience and are infinitely better options than what we've had recently. Gilbert MAY have an inside track because of his relationship with Barnes and, while that may be valuable, it may have no significant bearing on the likelihood of him being hired, especially if the search firm plays a big role.
With Plowman front and center, Gilbert’s role in killing off the Lady Vols brand could factor.

I see this as a sign. Yesterday I moved to iPhone for the first time, after being on Android for over 10 years. Mostly because I could get a white phone with an orange case. Yesterday was hopefully the start of a new era for UT Football. Also, really bad day to get six hours behind on this thread 🥶.
So the last decade is all your fault cause you went with Android! You should be ashamed lol

I don’t know what to think about AV’s declarations on here that came to fruition. I don’t think boosters intended to orchestrate a coup, but I do think they wanted to and Plowman was given intel she couldn’t sit on and it just took on a life of its own. The two seem sort of coincidental. If it brings us Steele and sanctions for years to come, it wasn’t worth it. I’m trying to separate the violations from the narrative of what he wanted to see happen. I don’t see how this was a victory. We have nothing lying in wait, like Texas did. I’ll never hate Phil the way he does. Calling him a cancer to the program does not sit well with me.

Gilbert also has a connection to Hart. I think Parker will be more involved with the HC hire and the vetting process. They add immediate value there because they keep extensive files on the viable prospects. UT wants-- and needs-- an intermediary.

Everyone is rightfully emotional right now, some for different reasons... It's funny though how many are so quick to judge and shoot down a potential hire... Go back to mid-season and think about the game or half that Pruitt royally F'd up for the 100th time, think about his staff and their blunders over and over... let it sink in... okay now go back and look at some of these potential coaches... Yeah a Fisher type would not be a sexy hire, but the guy has years and years of experience that Pruitt didn't have and probably would never have... Part of the problem was JP apparently wouldn't let his staff coach...had to have a hand in everything... I think just a experienced coach who's not an idiot and brings a very strong experienced staff who will be left to do their jobs will be an INSTANT UPGRADE to our program and we will be shocked with the player development and cohesiveness of the program.

and no, anyone that thinks after all this we settle for Steele as HC, I can't help you, that's just not gonna happen.
Did you really just use the words "Fisher" and "not sexy" in a sentence? C'mon man.

Two things: 1. I'm okay with both of these options. 2. "Quickly" is the opposite of what AP said, so I also think it will be quickly.

I still smile thinking about Butch shutting down AP that one day about Hurd. Like I said before, AP cries when he doesn't get his way, always will.

Bingo

Bill O’Brien seems to align most with what the Admin wants and the ability to win football games. Was a disaster as GM of Texans, but in his 6 full seasons as HC, they won the division 4 times. Winning record as NFL HC, but most importantly, took over one of the few college programs that was more dysfunctional at the time than we are.

Being able to win at Penn State immediately after the Sandusky scandal was a miracle. Also landed Hackenburg for his second year, one of the top QB’s in the country that year. Hack’s best year was by far with O’Brien in his freshman year.

You want someone that has proven to be able to stabilize a former great program during a rough time, no better candidate. Has big time NFL ties, which is a plus. I’m sure Manning is a fan and he would go a long way in helping us land Simpson and Arch.

My concern would be that he might leave for the NFL after 2 or 3 years here if successful. But even still, if he were to stabilize the program, it would be a win for us.

Sad to say but I think I’ll take a one year ban. Afraid it’s going to be 2
Even if it’s 2 it’s not like the bowl games are what they use to be but with TN turning themselves in might grant some mercy considering the ncaa hasn’t really thrown the book at nobody lately

1. Freeze
2. Kiffin
3. Napier
4. Fickell
5. Chadwell

I'm out on the old NFL guys that think they invented the sport. Also out on O'Brien, Malzahn and Herman. Don't think we need another coach that caused division in their locker rooms. They were all driven out, despite them actually winning a good number of games. Obviously there are personality problems. It wouldn't be any easier here.

You've got hire somebody that can inspire. It doesn't have to be a big flashy name. Just need a good coach that makes the game fun again.

You also need your new AD to have the legwork done once he sits in the chair on Day 1.

Gilbert will know all of these candidates in some form or fashion, and if the search firm gives him a list of 10, he'll be in charge of prioritizing them as he sees fit.

A 2 year ban would be catastrophic to recruiting

In the Monday Night Chat, even Hubbs and AP had different responses to the question of timeline on the AD hire. They are very well connected, but I don't think they really know, and it's their nature to play it conservatively so as to not give people false hope about a quick hire. Anything could happen with the timeline.

Kiffin really does seem like the perfect candidate for our head coaching vacancy.
  • He has proven himself to be capable of program building since he left Alabama.
  • HE WANTS TO BE HERE.
  • He left us in the lurch, and we spiraled after. Some of this is his doing. He can come make it right.
  • It wouldn't/shouldn't matter to him that we will likely have some size of NCAA hammer dropped down on us, even if it's a bowl ban and/or scholarship reduction.
  • His son's middle name is Knox.
  • He brought Chaney here, and would likely continue a relationship with him (preventing further staff turnover).
  • VFLs like Jay Graham, Tee Martin, Kevin Steele, Kevin Simon, etc, will stay and coach for Lane.
  • He coached with Steele at Bama for 2 years (2014/2016).
  • He brought Tee Martin to USC, where they coached together for 2 years (2012/2013).
  • He is a proven recruiter and is RELEVANT, which would be great.
  • He had a successful 2020 at Ole Miss.
  • This time around, he'd be here for the long haul.

AV if you had anything to do with Pruitts firing and Fulmers(retirement) ;)!!!!........THANK YOU.....sorry I just don't feel bad for grown men getting paid 7 or 8 figures to play a game......equivalent to winning the lottery.!!

The players don't even care about them anymore. Ncaa would also be stupid to suggest self reporting is equal to being caught by someone else. If that's the case, even more schools will give them the middle finger.
