New hires better be good at doing more with less-- bc we're going to have less. It'll be interesting to see how UT handles the release requests and imminent portalers. UT generally helps players who want to leave, but the numbers are escalating. Steele has his hands full and not much help.
This is my big fear. When all is said and done, who's left on the team? Brooks has already requested his NLI release. Looks like Big Kat is backing out of his commitment. Rumors of several other key players looking to transfer. It's an ugly situation. We need to expedite the process and get someone in here to try and salvage the situation. And I worry about these defensive guys not wanting to play for Steele if he's their intended DC. Brooks, Big Kat, Toot...why wouldn't they want to play here if Steele would be their DC?

Hard not to feel the doom and gloom.

I'd rather be known as a football school instead of basketball. Hope all programs do well but ultimately I'd like to be a football power house! That's why I lean towards Ingram over Gilbert. Ingram has proven he can build a football program. Just my opinion.

I agree. I want Ingram as well but just saying if it’s Gilbert it’s not the end of the world like many seem to think here

If we have a search firm and Tennessee can prove he was the scapegoat bring me Art Briles. Remember he re signed from his high school job and hasn't taken a position anywhere yet. Also fits the P5 experience. Proven winnner.

Plowman wouldn’t make it off the first page with Briles. She’s not going to go from one violator to another

I’d argue we’re much better off now than last time. Roster is much better and Fulmer is gone. AV and others have said he’s been a big problem attracting good coaches.
Will the roster be much better after people hit the portal? IF the people that are rumored actually enter the portal, I don't agree that the roster is better.

Lol...no they won't. You guys all got what you wanted..now we are all going to reap the whirlwind.

This roster is solid. We just gotta prevent transfers before the new guy is here

The roster is way better but dangerously close to sliding back to where it was with transfers

The fact we are going to keep some seniors is going to help next year but the roster is going to go backwards In the next few years

We are never going to succeed as long as we have factions willing to burn the entire house down to get their way. I see no end to the warring and while team Haslam no doubt celebrates victory and plans to give us yet another one if their lame ass coaches, there’s no doubt that those who’ve been vanquished are plotting their own revenge as we speak. We have a bunch of children in charge who don’t care a bit about football, just their side being in charge. Let’s just hope they stumble into a decent hire because that is the only way we will get one. Fans will accept anyone with a pulse despite legit opportunities to dig out of the hell pit we are in.
I do believe apathy has set in. My husband said he had no one even bring up what is happening at Tennessee at work the last two days. Along with that, some of the power people have to be getting tired of failing by now.

I agree. I want Ingram as well but just saying if it’s Gilbert it’s not the end of the world like many seem to think here
Well in fairness he was associated with a administration during this dark time, so I can see how some could be hesitant thinking more of the same!

Maybe my memory is bad, but I don't remember Currie even really being in the discussion. It was Phil and Blackburn and then Currie got hired.
I think he entered the discussion late, but maybe not from all sources. I trust your memory more than I do mine.

Kiffin really does seem like the perfect candidate for our head coaching vacancy.
  • He has proven himself to be capable of program building since he left Alabama.
  • HE WANTS TO BE HERE.
  • He left us in the lurch, and we spiraled after. Some of this is his doing. He can come make it right.
  • It wouldn't/shouldn't matter to him that we will likely have some size of NCAA hammer dropped down on us, even if it's a bowl ban and/or scholarship reduction.
  • His son's middle name is Knox.
  • He brought Chaney here, and would likely continue a relationship with him (preventing further staff turnover).
  • VFLs like Jay Graham, Tee Martin, Kevin Steele, Kevin Simon, etc, will stay and coach for Lane.
  • He coached with Steele at Bama for 2 years (2014/2016).
  • He brought Tee Martin to USC, where they coached together for 2 years (2012/2013).
  • He is a proven recruiter and is RELEVANT, which would be great.
  • He had a successful 2020 at Ole Miss.
  • This time around, he'd be here for the long haul.
LOL
