Johnny Majors was also UT's last go-big hire. Just won the NC, loved UT, was a proven program builder. There's nobody like that out there now. We're going to have to prioritize and compromise.

You really need to get your head up. The money people are not going to throw money in for Steele. Believe in what Atlvol has said. They didn't clean house to put another unproven HC in. Cheer up man.

Exactly. They didn’t plan out this sneak attack firing of the AD and HC for months to just give the job to Steele. Not a chance.

Only way Steele ends up HC is if the NCAA hammers UT. And very doubtful that happens.

I can see Plowman and Boyd saying "no one is going to fault us for hiring the AP coach of the year." I actually think he's the most risk averse choice because of that.

These are all good things, but still UT is losing bigtime here. We are again a laughingstock in the public eye, we're looking at multiple year bowl bans with scholly reductions, and a potential mass exodus of players who we absolutely lied to in order to get them on campus to bind them to UT

Despite that, we're a minimum of 2 weeks away from a coach. The best decision here was to fire JP immediately after TAMU while having your plan in place enacted within a week.

Considering the enviroment... Maybe it's for the best bass... Let Steele just do his thing and go 5-7 or 6-6 for 3 years. Not good but we are playing the waiting game. We will be very clean and run a tight ship to get the NCAA off us. Then after the sanctions are over we will have a clean slate with no more bowl bans and scholarship reductions. By 2024, we will have vetted and set up a plan for the new guy to come in (Freeze, Kiffin, Napier, Campbell, Fickell) and then take full control.

You never know. Pair him with the right DC and it might be different. I remember back when we were discussing him. Everyone was saying he'd never work because the SEC was a defensive league. Three short years later everyone is saying we need an offensive minded head coachnbecuse the SEC is an offensive league.

why hire 1 when you could easily get both? Steele isn't taking Chadwell as an OC (mainly because he would say no to being an OC).. it's almost a sure thing that Caldwell takes Steele as his DC and he's already on staff..

Everyone wants to hire a coach for 10 years, but the avg SEC coach probably last 5years. With all the cards stacked against us, we will probably be on the wrong side of the average again.

Why would Lebby leave Ole Miss to come here if it was Chadwell? Seems like a pretty risky career move to do that under NCAA sanctions unless we opened up the checkbook and gave him the literal top dollar.

If it IS Lebby, that feels like it points to Kiffin being HC but I'm probably just using confirmation bias to see what I want to see. :)

Love him but AV has said this every time we have had to make a hire. Go back and read the lead up to the hire of Schiano. he was saying the same thing. I'm sure he was also saying it in the lead up to the Butch Jones hire too. Probably Dooley as well though I wasn't around back then.

Tennessee got the snakes out. No way we get anything close to a hammer.

The money works for Chadwell and leaves a lot on the table for experience at key positions for his staff

Money talks and if the money is right UT can hire just about anyone they want. They offered Gundy $7mil/year last time around. They will make a good hire this time.
