I just have a hard time thinking Stoops is possible. The biggest, attainable names after that are Campbell, Fickell, Freeze, Kiffin. Napier seems to think he's in that class, and then there is Chadwell. Who else is even possible? Cristobal maybe. This is going to get very interesting.
Unless the new AD is of a different opinion, the chancellor seemed to plan on hiring a sitting head coach. Makes me wonder if Stoops fits their bill. Will be interesting to see what names start leaking out with a new guy in the mix...id like to think we’ll have more options.

Cant hurt that his dad, Kevin White, currently serves as Chair of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee... might be able to make a phone call or 2 and help navigate these NCAA waters.
Where it the integrity in that? UT has sh^t in their bed and they're not gonna get the new AD to use connections to skirt any penalties. All UT can do now is show the NCAA that they're moving away from their previous problems by making the right hires.

so, unpopular opinion here...first, i think Matt Campbell is a great coach....

but.
isn't possible sometimes guys are just great in the situation they're in and it's not for replication somewhere else? i'm not sold that he could be great here, or really anywhere else really....but he's perfect for Iowa St...and that's ok.....
Eh. I think it applies in situations like Houston, Boise state, UCF... schools like that where they aren’t big time programs but they are far ahead of their competition. It seems like it doesn’t matter who coaches those schools they always win.

what Campbell is doing at Iowa state is comparable to what Mississippi state and Mullen did but far more impressive imo. He’s finding NFL caliber players on the regular and he’s built Iowa state up to where they can be closer to the power players in the big 12. A lot of people thought once they lost those couple classes that had David Montgomery and Alan Lazard in them they would slide back to bottom tier but they are still climbing. Whoever ends up getting Campbell whether it’s a big time college program or NFL program will have a lot of success.

Danny White (I’m pretending he was the Dallas Cowboys one) should hire all of the best players at their position.
make Jason Witten our tight ends coach (since we don’t have any tight ends, should be an easy transition into coaching).
Dale Jones (who left Louisville and went back to App State) for inside LB coach.
Al Wilson (Plowman waives the must have college degree rule) for outside LB coach.
Since all of our LBs are leaving, Al may still have some eligibility And could be a player/coach. Could play with a cane and still be faster than what we’ve had recently. Watch the slant pass, Al! Throw your cane!
QB coach...duh, Peyton.
Receivers coach...Peerless
RB coach and sexual health and baby Daddy coordinator...Travis
Dline coach and driving instructor...Leonard
Dback Coach...Shamburger (because of McDonalds potential tie-in sponsorship).
imagine Blobs calls: “Interception, Tennessee, what a turn of events..one of Shamburgers Hamburger Bandits snatched that ball quicker than a McDonalds bag full of cash. McDonalds, the chief sponsor of theVol radio network and the financial advisor to the Vols football program since 2018.”

I don't care if it's Lane. I don't care if it's Freeze. I don't care if it's Herman. I don't care if it's Dudley Do-Right. Just bring me a coach that can recruit and win. As long as that happens, I'll be happy. I'm putting my faith in our new AD. Whoever he hires, I'll give them a chance, even if it doesn't seem spectacular, because it seems like we finally have an AD that knows what he's doing. Even if it's a headscratcher, I'll give him a chance. I just want to win again.

It's definitely possible, but I think the dynamic you mention is more likely to be true if you're talking about a guy jumping from a lower level of competition to a higher one (e.g., G5 to P5).

If a dude is fielding successful teams at a P5 program, any P5 program, I think the chances are pretty good that he could go somewhere else and do the same thing. For example, it isn't surprising to me that James Franklin went to Penn St and has been good there, given what he did at Vandy. It isn't easy to recruit to Iowa St, and they are a middle-to-bottom tier program in that conference, but he's gone 26-19 in conference play there and is 24-12 if you throw out his very first year. Came very close to winning a conference championship there this year and won a NY6 bowl.

Campbell, Petersen, Riley are all bigger than Kiffin.

Campbell is a simpleton. He doesn't desire money or the situation we are in. There's article on top of article about that.

Peterson hasn't coached in 2 years and took an athletic role because of stress.

Riley buyout is 30 million and has it rolling at OU.

Not happening. Kiffin. Thats the list.

Lane can win here, but we also gotta stop overvaluing him.

White is going to look at the body of work as a whole, and I don’t think Kiffin would be in his top tier.

One thing he’s done is hire for the place he’s at, UT has the facilities & money to not find a coordinator on the rise or a D-3 guy, like he did in the past. I’d say put the top names based on results on the list not in the SEC currently, that’s probably where he’s looking.

I have a feeling that just with us announcing White as AD and everything that is going with it, some of our kids decide to stay or come back out of the portal--- except for probably Crouch, Toot, and Gray... I'm convinced with Toot coming in to talk to compliance and them all jumping at the same time, $omething $hady is going on and either they are jumping because their Fund$ have been cut off, or they know they're on a list and wouldn't be eligible anyway... makes a lot of sense as to how loyal they've been up until and after gump got fired...
Some of these guys are 100% not gonna be eligible at UT after this investigation - better to start looking for a spot if you’re compromised before the details get to the media. Really sucks, but some of the guys we’re losing would stay if they could.

Did I say anything about skirting penalties? If you dont think that having someone who is literally involved with the NCAA in your corner during this, you're just ignorant.

Bahaha the cane got me..... true though

Question for the board, if we were to hire Kiffin back do we believe he would embrace our traditions and history this time around? I seem to recall him pushing the USC theme while here the first go round. I would hope he'd buy in this time to our traditions and build upon them. Not trying to be negative toward Kiffin but if it worked out, I'd want him to be ALL in with the Vols.

see, i get that, and that's why i think he's a great coach, except the comparison to Mullen falls a little short in that he doesn't have multiple conf/national titles as coordinator, and let's face it, upward mobility in the big 12 is different than the SEC. though i do agree with the level of the two programs, comparably....they line up.

and i'll say this, i 'like' Campbell more than i do mullen, stylistically and just how he handles himself. i just happen to think that he has a really good thing at ISU, he had to build it.....not sure it's plug and play at his next stop.

i wouldn't be mad at hiring him, not at all. so don't misunderstand....
