Fair. But Pruitt’s southern ties aren’t what made him unsuccessful. It was probably the most successful part about him. He’s was just a bad coach with southern ties. I still think it’s important to get someone who knows how things work here. People said one of the reasons they didn’t want Petersen is because he wouldn’t fit down here. I don’t think it’s ridiculous to think Butch would’ve been a little more successful here if he understood the south better and had better ties (I’m not defending Butch btw. I bought 4 rounds of drinks at a bachelor party the night he was fired.) lolHow did Pruitt having southern ties workout for us Hubbs. VQ sucks I sware. They’re just mad their buddy Steele isn’t getting the job.
Butch had two top 5 recruiting classes. I don’t think not having southern ties led him to not being able to recruit this areaFair. But Pruitt’s southern ties aren’t what made him unsuccessful. i agree, on some level with you on Campbell....something about him, and he is a great coach, and the situation he's in, just screams "perfect marriage".....not sure he could plug and play here. i'm willing to find out though, if that's the direction it goes.Matt Campbell would win here but he’s short term. Go listen to any Matt Campbell interview, this scope of this job would burn him out in about 3years.
He’s not made for the SEC personality wise. That’s the key to this whole thing. We need a proven head coach who can take the heat of the job.
I’m not really sure who that is. Personally, I really like Shaw. I’ve wanted to hire him the last two cycles. He’s won at Stanford despite major disadvantages. I’d like to see what he could do recruiting on a level playing field.
They won 4 games the year before. He showed moderate improvement. But USC is the ultimate test run for what he brings. He is good but not great.
Iowa state is vandy of the B12. He lead them to a victory over OU for the first time in 25 years and he’s done it multiple times. Taking them to a conference championship game and a top 10 finish is like winning a national title.
Okay, let’s do a logic game like the last couple of days: I have two questions regarding Campbell.
1) Why would he take this job over bigger openings?
2) He will probably get an NFL job in a couple years so why make this move now?
