Jeff Scott was also co OC at Clemson with Elliot. He is at South Florida and finished 1-8. Elliot can come be OC but not head coach. Lane Kiffin, Campbell, Herman and in that order. Money talks. One of those 3 will say yes

They won't hire Kiffin, Campbell will say no and Herman does less with more.

Historically, Saban's assistants don't do well either and then Kirby Smart happened. You can't base one's success off another's.

I’m going to stick by my original statement. I’ll trust Danny White and be on board with his hire. But it is my opinion that Elliot is a mistake

I feel the same way. If he chooses Elliot, I'm all in, but it's not where I would go. DW knows a lot more than I do about picking football coaches

By the way was listening to a UCF podcast about Danny White and they pointed out pretty much every hire he made there never leaked out and just suddenly happened. He keeps things close to the vest. So it really is hard to tell.
Feels like we have real AD for the first time in a long time.

That's fair to a point...he can't hire/ go after the same caliber coaches that he did at UCF. Elliot would be perfect at UCF, but here, not so much

Tony Elliott is the easy candidate for the media to drive clicks. No one really knows who DW wants, so they use lazy past relationships to create weak conclusions (Leipold, Elliott, etc.). I am sure there is at least some interest and it may fall to Elliott, but people are just throwing **** against the wall and seeing if it sticks.

This is going to be a coaching search that doesn’t leak until the AD is ready for it to leak. Honestly think we should just sit back and wait.
I'm with you on this. White said the players would be told before anyone else. Everyone should be trying to figure out when he has a meeting with the players set up.

A good HC can get top 10 classes here consistently. A good HC can develop players. Reality is we need to be consistently better than UK, Candy, Ark, Mizzou. Top 10 does that. Do that for a few years, develop. Then steal one from UGA, UF, or Bama.. then you can catapult yourself into top 5's.

It's a process. Check one box at a time. Be consistent and over time you will get there. It's why we need a good coach we can build some stability around. Expecting an SEC title in 3yrs is not reasonable. Beat who we are supposed to beat. Close the gap and have close games with the big 3.

I agree with this. I think the hard part is figuring out how long that should take and what the appropriate level of expectation should we. Out can base wants it so bad by year 3. The Sagan/urban timelines have crushed all manner of reasonable expectations. We need a sustainable build and we need to not cut somebody off at the knees before they have an opportunity to let it play out.
the other side of this is making sure we don’t hire some idiot (aka butch) who was building a house of cards. Just has to be right this time.

No question about that. But I'm honestly kinda burned out on trying to put together a "top-notch staff" because I don't care about assistants that much anymore. Time and time again we see that the top programs work because of the head coach. Especially in the modern era. It's a head coach league. Everything else falls into place once you've got one. Fulmer is probably one of the only guys to win a national championship and be highly successful primarily because of his assistants.

I firmly believe the next HC needs to be able to bring in the staff they want. That is a hugely underrated factor IMO. There’s a big difference in Matt Campbell bringing in his whole staff and Chadwell bringing in his. Force fitting a staff on someone might be failing from the start.

We've got our Jeremy Foley then.

And we're about to hire our Urban Myer.
