Don’t assume college coaches turning down NFL interviews do it because they don’t want to leave their current school. A lot of NFL teams are notorious for reaching out to fast rising college coaches just for future reference, with no intent to seriously consider. The smart play is for them to avoid “kick the tires” interest and hold out for serious inquiries only - whether college or pro.

As a UCF grad I have repeatedly said this on here for 2 days. I fully expect it to be someone that isn't being discussed very much.

Hope that explains friendly media trying to steer chatter away from Campbell, Kiffin, Fleck, etc. and toward Elliott and Sonny Dykes.

“Hope” being the operative word. There’s a world of difference between Elliott and Dykes though.

There are a lot of head coaches who don't make it in the NFL and suck in college. Just because an NFL team expresses interest in a coach to be an assistant doesn't mean they are an elite head coach at a place like TN. That's ridiculous

No but it means they are elite at something. Every person it seems that garners interest from nfl in college is. Unless you’re hiring someone that has won a national title, they are all pretty much the same risk. I don’t believe that even Campbell, fleck, Fickell, or whoever is any more or less likely to succeed as a HC here than tony Elliot. I’m looking more at the person than their resumes.

After all his talk on twitter. Im a little disappointed to see Middleton wasn't selected.

Middleton on Twitter hasn’t been showing leadership. If anything else I’d say the opposite. He was talking about wanting kiffin after meeting with the AD yesterday. Complete inappropriate and I’d bet they were told not to do that

Everyone is guessing. I don't think anyone is steering. The reason those names are brought up is because nobody outside this board thinks bigger names will be interested.

I think you should post that fist again. I believe that more accurately reflects your reasoning tbh
