Just comparing apples-to-apples:
  • Kiffin won Conference USA twice in 3 years, including his first year.
  • Fleck won his conference once in 5 years at WMU, his last year.
  • Kiffin is 8-9 combined in SEC games with first year teams at Tennessee (previous year: 3-5) and Ole Miss (previous year: 2-6).
  • Fleck is 15-19 in Big 10 games, including 2-7 his first year (previous year: 5-4) and 3-4 in 2020.
Kiffin makes his teams immediately competitive in conference; Fleck doesn't.
Kiffins year at UT was meh at best

I believe we’re throwing the kitchen sink at Campbell

This is the reality I choose to live in. Campbell is our target. Campbell is talking to us but hasn’t said yes. We are trying to ease his mind about our NCAA issues. All we ask is for ADW to give his all for Tennessee and make sure that Campbell has our best possible offer of money and support. Then he can bring home a yes.

Not saying he does but he did confirm PJ Fleck not only picked up the phone but listened to UT. It's an automatic self defense mechanism to be like "no amount of money would lure someone with those red flags there". He at least sounds nervous about it.

The red flags don't even make sense other than the possible NCAA sanctions. That guy must not realize that UT has been in the top 25 in recruiting in pretty much every year except a couple since 2005. That is with all the craziness that has gone on and questionable coach hires. Roster turnover is inconsequential if the coach is good. The fanbase is only bad if the coach loses all the time, win and the fanbase loves you.

Shaw is coaching at his alma mater. He would be a tough pull.

Yeah, oh I don’t think that’s who we are going to hire but in reality he’s a good coach. The entire PAC-12 is not up to snuff nationally and if I were a coach in that league that was interested in winning championships I’d be motivated to leave.

I sincerely hope the hire is Campbell or Fickell. They know the game, well established systems of play, great leaders of men, get more out of less consistently. They could put a winning plan in place and execute it instead of the messes we have seen for the past 12+ years. Whoever it is has a great opportunity here. The situation is ripe for revival.

We didn't "turn this place upside down" for anything except...we had to.

Let's not act like we got rid of great leaders and coaches, only to go out and get the absolute elite. We let them go because they stunk/were in deep shiz.
Yes, we had to but we didn’t have to back up the brinks truck to pluck one of the best ADs in the land but we did. And it’s because we have new leaders in charge who want to win

David Shaw is just like Pat Fitzgerald. Gonna have to dump a whole truck to get them away from their Alma mater.

He may feel like he has reached his ceiling there or that he needs a fresh start. I think even very good coaches ultimately end up mismanaging things after a while or lose their spark and it’s in their best interests to start over somewhere new. Most don’t and just fade until they get fired.

We’re not turning this place upside down to hire the best AD and then turn around and hire Fleck. Not happening. Would be a total botch job optically. Expect a coach that will excite and unite us all. Not just a few scattered Fleck apologists

White is going to hire a coach that will win games and get the team behind him. I promise you he isn’t concerned with the level of fan excitement in the week following the announcement. “We” (gesturing widely) do not factor into this equation, nor should we.
