White interviewed Elliott for the UCF job last time and went with Heupel. What did he think? Elliott is too good for this job...Let’s hire a worse candidate instead? Of course not, if Elliott wasn’t good enough for the UCF job, why would he be the guy for this job?

Hate to break it to you, but pretty sure Eliott turned down Whites offer at UCF lol

Just my opinion, but I think there are three candidates that could excite the current roster and recruits. Those are Campbell, Kiffin, and Elliott. Campbell would generate excitement because he would be the big name that would get massive amounts of positive media attention, Kiffin because he's very well known and liked by young players, and Elliott because of Clemson's success and he's really well known to current players and recruits from the recruiting process. A lot of other candidates that are being talked about could be successful, but they likely don't generate the same early momentum that those three would. That can make the difference in turning the program around in two years compared to four due to lower roster attrition and better recruiting. Kiffin is definitely looking like a long shot. Let's hope they make Campbell an offer he can't refuse.

Bob_Vols from 247 seems optimistic (not):

If it is then that means we missed on others and he is the best available. I would take Elliot over a lot of sitting HCs and that includes some in the SEC currently. Bottomline is it won’t be for lack of trying. Money or not, our situation is not attractive. If White pulls out a good coach he should have a street named after him.
So he’s saying it’s still fluid and we will have to wait and see what happens. But if the big hire doesn’t pan out then Elliot is the next guy in line

Bob Vols knows nothing. 48 hours ago he was talking about how he really thought Kiffin had a good shot at the job. Kiffin probably hasn’t even received a phone call.

Hey, it's just message board gossip. I take it for what it is. Same thing I do with all the other "message board insiders".

It makes coaching searches interesting and exciting though.

Like I said before, TE as a floor is really good.

Preseason #6 and went 4-3 with losses to Oregon St, Cal, and Iowa St in bowl game.

Oregon St went 2-5.

Cal went 1-3. Only win was vs Oregon.

Doesn’t give me the excites.
I know the numbers on all of that. But he also lost a 1st round QB and PAC-12 screwed their whole conference up with the Covid stuff. The guy is a massive recruiter and a pretty good coach. He’s not someone I’d be mad about if we landed him.

None of those jobs were remotely close to this situation.

Riddle me this - Which one of those had just fired a coach and multiple staff for cause for recruiting violations in the midst of an NCAA investigation that coincides with the worst era in their football history?

That's the dilemma though right? Nobody who is qualified to handle our situation would volunteer, pun kinda intended, to handle it. If one does, awesome. I think DW actually gives us a shot. But the obvious ones aren't the only ones who could do it. And he also gives us a shot at some other options. I don't think guys like fleck and Elliott would have taken our call on Tuesday. They are now.

That would be fun, although I would like to see Connor actually take his next fight serious

He looked great in round 1, won it too.

Dustin switched things up & tore up Connor’s lead leg in round 2. Once Conor was less mobile Dustin pressed & got the better of him in their exchange. Caught the hobbled Conor as he tried to back pedal on that wrecked leg.

Conor should’ve taken a lesser fight, had been a year since he TKO’d a past his prime Cerrone. He wasn’t ready to step into a top 10 fight imo.

Bob said we’d have to miss on a few before TE gets the job. Also had this to say about Fleck, @HankHill should like this...

“I think Fleck is the real deal. I met Fleck when he was at WM. He’s energetic, extremely organized, offensive minded, and a leader. He is also an alpha unlike Butch. Butch is insecure. Fleck reminds me a lot of Dabo. He fits everything White is looking for. He’s also a great recruiter.”

Yeah, I guess what I said was a little too strong.

You left out a lot of what he said before that. He said that if TE is the guy, then we missed on a lot of other guys.
