There is no real evidence they could. They certainly both have more red flags. It's weird to me that any potential candidates are being compared to 2 guys who are pretty justifiably not even being considered. And neither has really proven to be a no risk option anywhere in there past.

Seems to be like all other searchers. "Insiders" coming in promising white whales...fans get excited and start throwing out unrealistic names and get hyped up...even if they make a good not great hire we will all be disappointed.

My white whales that won’t happen.
Campbell - literally top 2 choice on every schools board and NFL jobs as well.
Kiffen - offensive genius and QB whisperer. This overcomes a lot of roster deficiencies.

Good hires but don’t excite the fanbase.
Elliot - he is nothing like Pruitt. Very high upside. Concern is pretty much all his time is at Clemson and not much of a coaching tree to pull from.
Fleck - not the hot girl but a program builder. Would get you to 8 or 9 wins consistently but not regularly competing with rivals. Might be what we need to get the program healthy.
Fickell - impressive but defensive guy. Hate being tied to hitting on OC gold.

I think people forget how hard it is to pull a sitting P5 coach from a school. It happens very rarely and I don’t care how much money you come calling with...we’ve built a bad reputation on top of that so honestly if we get Elliott we should consider ourselves lucky.

The other thing about our dilemma is you can account for that in the contract length... Get the guy and his staff past the sanctions so they have time.

I wouldn't be mad at all at a 7 year deal/$50m, or whatever amount of $ to lock up Campbell or stoops.. Pederson type guy... The white whale.

If a guy had any interest at all... You can work the deal out so many different ways to satisfy concerns on their part.

We're gonna over pay for whoever we get... Go ahead and bank on that. Lol

The only way I think we hire Tony Elliott is if White is just convinced he's gonna be a mega star. I'm not sure about him. But I don't know him, our AD does. Otherwise I think I would lean towards a guy with experience because obviously you want experience. It's not like DW is forgetting that part.

But something we might keep in mind... White is known as an innovator and risk taker. He made UCF seem so cool for the first time in my life the last few years. He put young talented people in positions of power and poured into helping them succeed. It worked. That may be who he is and that may be a good thing. We might get really lucky.

That being said we can look at what hires he made (or tried to make) at UCF but Tennessee is a whole different animal. He seems like he is expecting to win big here and knew what he would do right off the bat. I think we would be wise to get out of his way and let him try.

Only problem with that is media has reported we have the money to spend. VQ has mentioned a whale so it isn't just unknown posters on a message board throwing it out there. We actually did go get a whale of an AD and paid the money. This isn't like years before with no organization or solid plan and trying to get a bargain. With that said, the situation we are now in may lead to us getting someone that is a disappointment to the fans.
