It is like they mass hypnotize people or something. I will never understand the weird fascination of so many people with those two.

I mean is not enough to say they are both good offensive coaches and leave it at that?
I like both of them, but when you take emotion out of it, its not hard to see why TN won't go that route.

No more than anyone else that’s been a P5 HEAD COACH but how many other coaches have won 10 at 4 different places. Let’s not act like they don’t get more out of less. We don’t really know that about Elliot bc he’s had a helluva lot more talent. I’m not trying to be argumentative it just seems like same ole bs type of hire
We don’t, but I have faith that Danny White does. It’s different imo because of who is making the hire. We still don’t even know who the hire is tho.

There are some wired, jacked-up MFers on VolNation right now. I navigated to the Football Forum a few minutes ago. Jesus. I think some of it has leaked over here. Folks got PTSD.

If Elliot is the hire, White will put him in a position to succeed. He’ll have the resources and support worthy of a Top 10 program.
Some of them leaked over here.

I know one thing, Tony Elliott wouldn’t have played JG and would have had JT or someone else ready
Elliot with HB, Salter and Hooker and our young WRs could be a whole lot of fun...he just did pretty freaking well the last six years with a couple other Georgia HS record setting QBs....just sayin 🤷‍♂️

Just saying out current situation is not desirable... And when approaching this search for a coach, not accounting for that in candidates'decision making process leads to unrealistic expectations on who we should 'just go get'.

We could offer Campbell $7-8M a year on a 7 year deal... And he could Legitimately turn it down... Based on situation alone.
Ok..that is exactly what I was saying too.

I’m not saying it is or it ain’t a good hire. Hell all the noise about DW gonna be able to open the doors to coaches that PF couldn’t and then we still hire a 1st timer even after plowman spews this bs that TN ain’t the place to learn on the job for newbies & hell that’s all we’ve really been for 13 years

I get it on the surface it does, but dig a little bit.
Elliott has called plays at Clemson for 6 years. Unlike the other 3 terrible hires, other schools and even some NFL teams want or have talked to Elliott, he has been an OC only by choice.
The name of the game is QB, with Elliott we are very likely to get Ty Simpson as long as the penalties aren't that bad, that cuts down the rebuild some.
TN just dug up every bit of incrimination evidence it could find and handed it to the NCAA, bringing in a guy like Freeze guarantees stiff penalties, plus how can he look a recruits parents in the face and talk about integrity and a winning culture? Kiffin is too big of a risk, has he grown up? Why is his defense always terrible? Will he stay or will he jump ship?
Its fun to speculate on the big names, but the reality is they aren't leaving unless its to come home or go to the NFL coaches just don't move anymore.

Umm — yea. I did. A great AD SHOULD mentor the head coach. That’s his job.

I‘m not talking about play calling or game management. This is about media, university, and booster relations and leadership skills. We’ve lacked that kind of mentor at the AD position for over a decade.
Oh, I didn't think people were concerned about Elliot handling media, boosters, etc. I thought it was whether he could be a head coach instead of an OC. I don't think the AD can help him with that. Hopefully he has learned more from Dabo than Pruitt learned from Saban.

Exactly and we know Steele is a competent DC. The sky isn't falling if its Elliott.

So let’s say we get TE, do we then likely save some money and retain Steele?
My biggest concern about Elliott is his coaching tree. He's never coached outside of South Carolina. So what kind of staff can he put together?
So it probably doesn't hurt that we have some guys still here that would be available should he decide to retain and just fill gaps.

It is a contradiction... If that's what happens.

His name sounds better than Fleck,Dykes and others. I just want them to get it right for once. Its hard to have faith after the last 3 hires. I thought Plowman said the next coach would be a HC and Tenn was not a learning on the field job?
1. IDK didn't watch that press conference
2. I get it, its scary and seems like the same ole same ol. But Danny White has been an ACE in hiring coaches, I trust him.
3. If she did say that it was dumb, but you cant make someone say yes, and like you said its better than Fleck, Dykes etc....
