Like many, I expected we'd have to go down our list. There are only so many elite hires and not everyone is interested in a tough path. UT admin has been hammering the need for patience-- even more patience than we've had before. Coaches have to wonder how much of that they're going to get, and we need someone who's able to move forward with blinders if the answer is not as much as they need.

When money isn't the sticking point, you gather your nos quickly and move on to the names with genuine interest. An in-person is a final checkpoint. Both parties agree on the basics and reach a verbal... or decide to back off, for whatever reason.
Where do you feel we are leaning? And do you have a top 3?

Yep, this is the plan-- cover all the bases virtually, then do an in-person follow-up and wrap it. They do separate calls with the agent on terms and execute the MOU. Clean, efficient and hush-hush.
So it’s Tony Elliot since they’re saying we are in person today.

If you're an elite coach, you have the clout to warrant patience from the fans. The fans have been patient for a decade with bums.

My dude... the fans have been patient. For a long time. Sounds like you're not too impressed with the hire. You probably won't be alone.

DW runs a tight ship. Media is throwing names out in hopes they can claim they still have sources. Names mentioned are probably floated out there by agents seeking to get their clients a bump and themselves a nice commission. This is the way.

I bet we are surprised or it's Campbell.

I just don't see Elliot. 1st time head coach asked to fix a crappy culture and deal with possible NCAA sanctions?
Agree. Also, don’t understand why we’d hire Elliot over Chadwell. Doesn’t make sense

Here is where I am with PJ

I see him a lot like Mullen. I always thought Mullen was a really good coach, but not a championship caliber coach. I thought he would get the typical “program boost” to his wins, but still be pretty much what he was.

I think PJ Fleck is this at worst. Given where we are at with our program, while I was not ready to settle for Mullen before, if we truly can’t get an absolute home run, I am more than ready to ride with Fleck and hope he can be an inside the park HR over time, like Saban

This is what I have been saying. Consistent 8 or 9 win guy with a ceiling. Maybe you go this route to healthy the program and then do what UGA did with Richt.

The claim is that Elliot is a elite recruiter so he might be able to get some of that talent that is going to Clemson. There is no doubt him leaving would put a hole in Clemson.

Scary, but this could have been pulled from any number of quotes 3 years ago.

It’s time we all rally around coach Tony Elliot! He’s a good man who can recruit and knows how to score points! 🍊

my only gripe is Randy Boyd and crew sat up there and said this is no place to learn on the job. We burnt down the entire program to go after another coordinator. That’s no slight to Tony though. I think he’s the next star in coaching!

So Elliot turns Auburn who is in much better shape than we are and no probation, He turns down two really nice NFL jobs but looks at all the trouble UT is in, a lot less talent than he is use to being around, players leaving left and right, and we think he is going to take UT with no HC experience. White is going to turn over a deeply troubled UT to an unexperienced assistant to bring us out of this after going through the same exact thing with Pruitt. Nah. I don't see it. I believe White is going to do what he is highly paid to do. Bring us a sitting HC with p5 experience. Thank you very much I am here all week. lol
White runs a tight ship and is almost obsessed with confidetiality. The Elliot "leak" is the distraction. The plane flies soon or if not hire is already made. Let's hope it don't fly. The new coach will simply fly in.
