You cannot legitimately tell me that our fanbase is any more negative than other major programs. That perceived negativity is simply passion for our program and any legit P5 potential coach should know that.

I think people want to ignore the Bama fans who want to fire Saban when he loses a game.

Yeah, in a weird case of confluence, both can be true. It can be true that he was planning on retiring this winter, AND that he was (pretty gently) shown the door for presiding over a significant recruiting scandal.

I'm not totally convinced that's how it happened. An opposing data point is that he seemed to be trying to give Pruitt one more season to right the ship. If that were true, it would stand to reason he'd recognize the need to stay on to hold the umbrella. At least through spring camp.

So maybe it wasn't going to be this winter, maybe next spring or summer instead. But the speed with which we secured Danny White argues that it was going to be sooner than later, giving Donde Plowman a chance to be way in front of things when the alarms went off.

Fulmer had zero intention of retiring. He fully planned to work with Pruitt to address obvious problems in the program and was planning that right up until he was called into Plowman's office to get the ultimatum. UT gave him an out because it was advantageous to the university and leadership to do so. Plowman was fake nice because she needed the confidentiality agreement.

Things like this always come at a cost. The way it was handled has caused several long-time donors to threaten to pull funding. Some will back down; some won't.

If we are willing to hire Franklin and pay him 7-8 million, then there is no reason we shouldn’t offer Freeze 5-6 million.

I've been on the Choo Choo Chadwell train since Day 1. I'd much prefer we give this guy a shot over Elliot or Dykes. Chadwell has revived not one, but TWO different programs. He has HC experience. He has an innovative offensive mind. And he has a great personality and is from East Tennessee. He would fight like hell for this program. It's the no brainer choice if you missed on all your big fish.

We can tell ourselves that, but Butch Jones inherited trash, won 9 games in year 3 and 4, and even after a 9 win season where he beat Florida and Georgia, we still ****ing hated him for blowing the East. And we were right to hate him.

Unless we lose 10 scholarships a year for 3 years, the fans will expect to see real progress by year 4.

He also went 4-8. That's why he was fired. Not having yet won the East had no hand in his being fired.

it just may mean he's not willing to go thru it again....they don't know what the sanctions are going to be, and we have yet to self impose.

err'thing regarding the NCAA portion of this deal, is TBD...with a hedged bet on what will come based on feedback from the law firm.

I'll never understand people who say "UT doesn't care about winning" after offering coaches $8M to come.

If they didn't care about winning, they could easily hire a "respectable" candidate with $4M. You could have announced Dave Clawson last week, who would run a clean program and finish like 7-5, 8-4 yearly (and never win the SEC). But they are aiming higher than that, even if it costs more money.

They are swinging for the fences, and might strike out. But that wouldn't mean they "don't care about winning".

I can confirm Kress' tweet that Chadwell was contacted last night - I just don't know if it was by the search firm or by UT.

If this is true, it seems to indicate we have re-set the search a little bit. Or we weren't totally sold on whoever was in the second tier.

Or DW is being more methodical than we were originally lead to believe.

National perception of this program isn’t helping any in this search. It looks like we burned our house down on purpose. On top of that our fanbase presence on social media isn’t helping at all. I’m not blaming the fans for the past 10 years but at the same time when you have fans running potential candidates names through the mud and sending immature emails it really makes a coach think twice about coming here. I mean honestly, money isn’t everything in the world of college football anymore. For the first time in a long time we have hired an AD worth a flip. Ignore what the local media is putting out. They know as much as we do. This search is getting played so close to DWs chest that I would be surprised if his wife knew about it. So RELAX. Let’s stop the damn bickering. Let’s see how this plays out.
