Recruiting Forum Football Talk III

We won 3 games this past season. We nuked our Athletic department, torpedoed the football staff, and confessed to almost every heinous crime in the history of humanity (there’s a few remaining we haven’t claimed ownership of yet – but it’s not over at the moment, so who knows). Understandably and for a host of reasons a number of some of the better mercenaries we bring in to run down the field for us are jumping for the lifeboats. Many of those that remain might not be able to find a better roster spot with anyone else plus since we’re losing so many contributors, opportunity is nowhere.

I think 5-7 this year and maybe next year is fine. If we raise expectations without accounting for reality we set our new hires up to be labeled failures. Not only is that unfair, it’s counterproductive to supporting the program. It’s selfish. We need expectations set at a level that we can either meet or exceed. Under promise – Over deliver.

The AD and the Coach are going to have to sell football tickets. They’re in a catch-22 position. I’m not a seller, I’m a buyer. I want to know what I’m buying and I don’t care about the sales pitch. Save it. We’re a clunker not a Bugatti. Let’s take the clunker which is all that’s available to us right now, and clean it up a bit, see what is worth holding on to and what needs to go to the junk yard, either build, machine, or procure some new parts, and see if we can get this baby on the road. We’ll worry about how fast she might be able to go after we figure out what all additional work we will need to do on her. Right now let’s focus on the basics. Anyone got any spare tires? Retreads will do. Thank you. jmo.
4 OOC + 2 of Vandy, KY, SC, and Mizzou. Sorry. Just not buying missing a bowl game in year two. Football is not a hard game. Especially when you own the talent advantage like we do over all those teams.

Again I’m just talking about Launches. I’m sure they do a lot of testing and stuff in other states. Texas has NASA so I’m sure they are there as well.
They launch from Vandenburg in California as well. They’ve done more than a dozen there, I think they were all the Falcon 9. They’ve done a couple night launches that make a very cool sky spectacle from hundreds of miles away.

Daaaaaaamn! That’s so cool. You AF? Or related contractor?

I was an absolute space nut as a kid. Born in ‘65 so the Apollo program was all through my childhood and I ate it right up. It still is all magical to me.

I’m just speculating –

How many recruits or recruit family’s did we have bagmen paying? I think that’s unlikely to come out. I think most of the violations that come out will likely be what I would consider small time stuff. I think the bigger stuff would be harder to prove because it’s managed by people who may be a little smarter than your average dumb jock turned football coach. Regardless, I think it’s possible that our recruiting could take a significant hit in the short term as our share of the guys expecting to get paid may be skittish about coming to a place that can’t be counted on to reliably and discreetly take care of its business. jmo.

Maybe we weren’t paying recruits or the families when Kiffin was here before, or Dooley, or Jones. Maybe we only did that with Fulmer/Pruitt. Maybe we don’t do it at all. I’ve generally read some of a certain poster’s comments in recruits threads as yeah we’re doing something. Somehow we’re taking care of certain high profile recruits. I think HT’s parents were going to all of his games and I got the idea it wasn’t on their dime. I think most of the guys who are leaving probably had concerns about eligibility if they remained. jmo.

Much of the on paper talent advantage we have had recently over schools like Kentucky and South Carolina just hit the transfer portal or are heading that way. Some recruits already signed in the current class may be looking for a way out. We’re not going to know where we’re at until maybe the start of fall camp or something but I’m not sure we’ll have a top 20 talented team in 2021 and probably not 2022. I don’t know how it’s going to shake out. We’ve just got to wait for the rest of the cards to be dealt but I’m afraid recruiting for us for some time is going to be facing some heavy headwinds and it won’t all be on the new staff. jmo.

I get the idea that some of our fans think none of this stuff should have much of an impact on us and our recruiting. Let's just say I have lowered expectations. I think we're in a lot deeper hole than other may think and it may take us a bit longer than desirable to work our way out of that hole. In the meantime I'm going to be celebrating to high heaven when our new staff is able to pull a prized recruit coveted by our rivals. They would have earned high praise. jmo.

Good flavor on what to expect from the UCF point of view.

DW will bring the local community together and now has a larger platform across the state. And small businesses need any help they can get now more than ever in the Covid era.

Have to admit, the AD has always been an afterthought to me but we’re about to see what it can really bring to the school / community when true pros are running the ship. Truly excited for the present and our future.

Poster on VQ says Heupel is being Merritt, the RB coach with him. I’m glad he’s got familiarity, but some of this could be risky. That dude has barely coached at all, only one has recruited at this level and that’s the WR coach if they can keep him. I know these are offense and we shouldn’t worry bc the offense is Heupel’s yada yada yada, but that is a question mark for how they will work and recruit in this league. They are already behind the 8 ball in this all important ‘22 class

Logic points to bringing his entire offensive staff with him as being a huge mistake.

We can justify it. Get behind it. But it screams of “best staff in America” nonsense that we’ve already been through.

Let’s give the guy more than a week before criticizing every move he makes.

I have more faith in CJH’s staff decisions than Pruitt’s, that’s for sure.

Another thing on the NCAA. Jimbo Hyams said that the NCAA has cut staff so much and their backlog is so great that they may be satisfied with UT's investigation and may just accept their results. Said if they self imposed a reasonable penalty they may just rubber stamp it.
I remember some national media guy saying the same thing and it would take two years. Oh you fired the Gump and crew? Okay.

Watching the 2018 AAC Championship Game (UCF/Memphis). The UCF backup quarterback Darriel Mack Jr. is really, really bad. I mean, seriously. I would be shocked if all our walk-ons are not better. Surely every scholarship QB could blow him out of the water. With this system that possibility gets me excited.

Also, the UCF D struggled mightily in the first half of this game. Woof. Memphis's running back DESTROYED them over and over. This was a classic Mike Norvell team.

It was all bad in the first half apart from the score in the final few minutes. Juiced the entire stadium.

Second half, everything tightened up. UCF scored 5 TDs. Memphis scored a FG. UCF dominates the 2nd half for the championship win.

How was the best staff in America any different from some of these high dollar staffs we have brought in?

Reducing the 85 wouldn't really be a punishment unless it was a huge number like 55 or 60. But that goes too far for player safety reasons. Who cares if you only have 70. No teams ever play 70 players.
The punishments just say a reduction of y in scholarships over x amount of years. It doesn't say anything about signing. Pretty sure it's total scholarships.

I bet you three years ago when Pruitt was hiring guys with SEC and NFL experience you thought differently.
That’s bc none of us knows..... no one here knows if a guy is a good coach/recruiter besides reputation..... look at how many come here with a good reputation that by the time they leave we would pay teams to take them.

Bullcrap...UGA and Bama are do this same stuff openly and brazenly and nothing will ever be done about it. It is a load of rigged 🐂💩

Missed the point and then confirmed it with what you said. Us doing what we are doing is because it is rigged. We are not in, we are outsiders to the club and have been since Roy Kramer retired. Fulmer ruined our membership in the club in the mid-90's by turning in Bama. If you are an outsider you do it the way we are doing it now to avoid the heavy hammer. Bruce's weenie roast affair pulled back the curtain and confirmed our status while the elites in the club continued doing what they do.

If you find a way to get us back into the club, you will be a hero for all of VN. Until then, I'll take reality over long lost perception. When we do the reality thing we stop kicking at the goads and start long term healing personally and as a football program.

Lawyer up and fight them.... the NCAA has no investigative power.

They have no subpoena power, but they can investigate anything they want. In fact, any player at another school, they will give immunity to discuss if the UT staff provided payments to them. That’s what they did to OM.

It’s not being in some sort of club...... it’s having a strong AD and administration backing it up.....Doug Dickey wouldn’t allow the NCAA to do anything..... The NCAA has no investigative powers so unless they have definitive proof.... it is best to fight them with lawyers and hardly anything will happen to you.... we did the investigation for them.

Ole miss got in trouble bc half of their issues were out in public and had a paper/ communication trail..... without that info..... a players word would have meant absolutely nothing.
