They have no subpoena power, but they can investigate anything they want. In fact, any player at another school, they will give immunity to discuss if the UT staff provided payments to them. That’s what they did to OM.

I know nothing about it. But that's a strange process if that's how they do it. It seems to incentivize the very ones who cooperate in the crime to just leave the minute the gig is up. [Hmmm. Seems like we've seen a lot of players in the portal.] To offer them complete immunity seems counterproductive at a policy level. I think I could understand reduced punishments, but immunity seems like a 'get out of jail free card' for any student who just hits the portal after the fact. Ick.

Calling UCF UCF instead of central Florida wasn't DW. That started around 2005 i think when they rebranded from golden knights to just nights.. But yer points about him marketing the brand are correct. He wants to create an identifiable style that makes the program stand out and be easily recognized. One of his big contributions there was UCFast. Started with frost bringing Oregon up tempo offense then he picked Heupel to continue it. Heupel wasn't quite as up tempo before he got there but ended up being faster than frost was. At both Buffalo and UCF he raised money for the athletic department at exponentially greater volumes than either program had ever done before. People think he just hires coaches but that is a small part of what sets him apart from most ADs.
Good post! Thanks for the info. Maybe it wasn't DW. I heard an interview on the radio yesterday with a girl from UCF who worked in the sports media department. I think her name was Sandy or Sammi. The host of the show said " University of Central Florida" and she corrected him real quick and told him its UCF. She was the one who said AD White would correct everyone and wanted it to be known as UCF.

Ole miss got in trouble bc half of their issues were out in public and had a paper/ communication trail..... without that info..... a players word would have meant absolutely nothing.

They interview players at other programs quite often. It’s how they got Bruce Pearl, and that information was not readily available in public.

It’s not being in some sort of club...... it’s having a strong AD and administration backing it up.....Doug Dickey wouldn’t allow the NCAA to do anything..... The NCAA has no investigative powers so unless they have definitive proof.... it is best to fight them with lawyers and hardly anything will happen to you.... we did the investigation for them.

We will need to agree to disagree. Which is fine. You do realize Roy Kramer was at the SEC office during Dickey's tenure - right?

I was thinking about this, but I don’t think our situation is the norm. A lot of times, kids may still be at the same school, but NCAA investigators interview kids who were recruited but now at other schools. Also, sometimes it takes a couple of years to find out about allegations, and when they investigate, the implicated kids have left school or gone to the pros. These players don’t have to talk because they aren’t under the NCAA purview anymore.

That’s bc none of us knows..... no one here knows if a guy is a good coach/recruiter besides reputation..... look at how many come here with a good reputation that by the time they leave we would pay teams to take them.

Still a safer bet to go with a majority staff with an already established rep.

Look, I’m totally on board with JH bringing his OL and WR coaches. Those would be good hires. It really isn’t even a terrible idea to bring the OC since he won’t be calling plays anyway. But the TE and RB spots should be filled with proven coaches in the Power 5, preferably with SEC experience.

Better get a NFL coaching staff the the Swiss Cheese Defense.

One player I keep thinking about, especially with Gray leaving is Dee Beckwith. Does Huepel leave him at RB? If so I have to think he emerges as one of our top 2 or 3 RBs. If not the bellcow. I could also also see him shifting over to more of a pass catching role. He might be pretty nice at TE too. I can't help but think he's a guy that could get priority touches. He looked bursty and powerful the few times we saw him with the ball this year. I don't even want to type out the name of the player he reminded me of right off the bat because it's way too early to be that optimistic. He's probably not that. But maybe a little Jalen Hurd-like? What do y'all think about that comparison? Am I too eager?
Watch Otis Anderson at UCF. I realize they're about 40 lbs different but Otis is a hybrid rb receiver. Heupel played him a ton at both. Not just a pass catching rb but also split out wide. Almost all of his catches were running wr routes from outside the numbers. Heupel loves taking advantage of that so I see Beckwith in a similar role. Even mixing in some routes from in line TE as well as wr.

Golesh is a great coach so I want him here as TE coach. But yes, to your point, I am very worried about recruiting.

I think you raise a fair point. Volnation is just very protective of Heupel right now. Raising a concern is now coach bashing.

I agree. I’m not trying to bash JH, I’m on board. But you’d think that having gone through X amount of coaching changes the last decade that we can look at his potential hiring of his entire UCF offensive staff objectively.

I hope it works out but I’m skeptical. I think if this happens there will be major staff shake up again in two years and not for good reasons.

Let’s give the guy more than a week before criticizing every move he makes.

I have more faith in CJH’s staff decisions than Pruitt’s, that’s for sure.

In hind sight, sure, but people were saying EXACTLY the same thing when we moved on from Butch.

“Pruitt has rings at two stops and has forgot more about football than Butch knows. Cornnnbreaddddddd.”
