We won 3 games this past season. We nuked our Athletic department, torpedoed the football staff, and confessed to almost every heinous crime in the history of humanity (there’s a few remaining we haven’t claimed ownership of yet – but it’s not over at the moment, so who knows). Understandably and for a host of reasons a number of some of the better mercenaries we bring in to run down the field for us are jumping for the lifeboats. Many of those that remain might not be able to find a better roster spot with anyone else plus since we’re losing so many contributors, opportunity is nowhere.
I think 5-7 this year and maybe next year is fine. If we raise expectations without accounting for reality we set our new hires up to be labeled failures. Not only is that unfair, it’s counterproductive to supporting the program. It’s selfish. We need expectations set at a level that we can either meet or exceed. Under promise – Over deliver.
The AD and the Coach are going to have to sell football tickets. They’re in a catch-22 position. I’m not a seller, I’m a buyer. I want to know what I’m buying and I don’t care about the sales pitch. Save it. We’re a clunker not a Bugatti. Let’s take the clunker which is all that’s available to us right now, and clean it up a bit, see what is worth holding on to and what needs to go to the junk yard, either build, machine, or procure some new parts, and see if we can get this baby on the road. We’ll worry about how fast she might be able to go after we figure out what all additional work we will need to do on her. Right now let’s focus on the basics. Anyone got any spare tires? Retreads will do. Thank you. jmo.
