True or false???

Stopping the run on defense will be more important because teams will try to establish the run against us more than most teams.

rationale behind such a statement is teams will see the way to offset our fast pace offense as playing ball control offense

I’d agree. With the offense we’d be running, I would guess the priorities for defense would be:

1. Stopping the run
2. Red zone Defense - forcing field goals
3. Forcing turnovers

I’m just speculating –

How many recruits or recruit family’s did we have bagmen paying? I think that’s unlikely to come out. I think most of the violations that come out will likely be what I would consider small time stuff. I think the bigger stuff would be harder to prove because it’s managed by people who may be a little smarter than your average dumb jock turned football coach. Regardless, I think it’s possible that our recruiting could take a significant hit in the short term as our share of the guys expecting to get paid may be skittish about coming to a place that can’t be counted on to reliably and discreetly take care of its business. jmo.

Maybe we weren’t paying recruits or the families when Kiffin was here before, or Dooley, or Jones. Maybe we only did that with Fulmer/Pruitt. Maybe we don’t do it at all. I’ve generally read some of a certain poster’s comments in recruits threads as yeah we’re doing something. Somehow we’re taking care of certain high profile recruits. I think HT’s parents were going to all of his games and I got the idea it wasn’t on their dime. I think most of the guys who are leaving probably had concerns about eligibility if they remained. jmo.

Much of the on paper talent advantage we have had recently over schools like Kentucky and South Carolina just hit the transfer portal or are heading that way. Some recruits already signed in the current class may be looking for a way out. We’re not going to know where we’re at until maybe the start of fall camp or something but I’m not sure we’ll have a top 20 talented team in 2021 and probably not 2022. I don’t know how it’s going to shake out. We’ve just got to wait for the rest of the cards to be dealt but I’m afraid recruiting for us for some time is going to be facing some heavy headwinds and it won’t all be on the new staff. jmo.

I get the idea that some of our fans think none of this stuff should have much of an impact on us and our recruiting. Let's just say I have lowered expectations. I think we're in a lot deeper hole than other may think and it may take us a bit longer than desirable to work our way out of that hole. In the meantime I'm going to be celebrating to high heaven when our new staff is able to pull a prized recruit coveted by our rivals. They would have earned high praise. jmo.
💯💯💯% truth. It is our reality now, our fanbase as a whole being willingly optimistically blind to that new paradigm is only going to make a horrid situation worse.

I don't like what they did to win, they went scorched earth to gain total power...but I am a Vol, and the only hope that I have to see a consistently good football team again in my lifetime is to support them and hope that they know what they are doing this time.

Danny White was a great hire, that is a good sign that they have learned something.

I will not respond if he does. I think he has demonstrated very well to this point that he is skilled at time management. If you would like to monitor it and let the rest of us know, I will be happy to respond when you do.

It stands to reason that if Vols social media is affecting the results of Vols athletics (recruiting, hiring, etc), he may consider engaging them to be part of his job. It would be interesting to see that if doing so could help shape it into a more positive force.

That changed with lebby once it became clear he was the front runner for the UCf job
I don’t disagree. I’m not saying Lebby or Briles not coming means we won’t have a good offense. I’m just saying we’re on Plan B on offense already, and who knows where we’re at on the defensive side. I guess Plan B as well if you assume Steele was option #1.

It is.

What he did at Missouri was far more impressive than anything any candidate We’ve hired in the past has done.
Eh, I would say being the head coach of an undefeated regular season team is the biggest notch on his resume.

That Missouri team put up stats but mostly against bad teams.

I think Steele ends up being the dc. I think the few days has healed the hurt he had with not getting the Hc job. I think fulmer had promised him the job.

The fact he’s still employed tells me he’s coming around. With the other coaches being fired yesterday I think he’s staying

Watch Otis Anderson at UCF. I realize they're about 40 lbs different but Otis is a hybrid rb receiver. Heupel played him a ton at both. Not just a pass catching rb but also split out wide. Almost all of his catches were running wr routes from outside the numbers. Heupel loves taking advantage of that so I see Beckwith in a similar role. Even mixing in some routes from in line TE as well as wr.

Really cool insight, thanks.

I sure hope so. It might be that he’s choosing between multiple offers.

The key to defense in this day and age is absolute lockdown in the red zone, holding teams to 3.

Then we have to drive the field and score more TDs then them. Simple really.

Get a pass rush so the secondary can have a chance to diagnose the ten wrs running around it seems lol
Don’t seem like many teams have that
That would be big

I think Steele, Osevet, and Tee are the only holdovers from previous staff.

I said yesterday I’d find a way to give him a 3 year deal where he makes 2mil in year 3 and was cheap in the first 2 years.

not sure how tricky that would be with the auburn buyout but i am thinking.

Year 1-2 750k
Year 3 2mil

Even if year 3 has to be some kind of gentlemen’s agreement

I'm putting this out here not knowing what our staff makeup is going to be, particularly on the defensive side, but I also don't yet know what our roster is going to look like in the fall. I think our new offense must be relatively easy to learn because in the past it's been extremely proficient in year one, though maybe not as proficient against elite defenses. I'm not sure we're going to face that many elite defenses this coming year so I'm not factoring that in. I'm assuming we face only one or two defenses in the top 25 in 2021. So having provided all those qualifiers I think we should win 6 or 7 games but if we have some bumps it could be lower. If things go as well as I could stretch my imagination to argue, maybe we get to 10 or 11. I'll be sticking with probably 6 for the time being - just know I think if things work out I think our ceiling could be significantly higher. jmo.
