This thinking is correct: if you have A+ development, you can win with C+ classes.

However, my issue is this exact same line of thinking was used when both Butch and Pruitt were hired.

We expected Butch to be a bad recruiter because he had never been in the SEC but he turned out to be pretty good at selling the university - just couldn’t evaluate and develop SEC talent.

We expected Pruitt to be a great recruiter and when the 2018 and 2019 classes were lackluster we ran with “these guys know how to teach football we’ll be fine.”

I guess the point I’m trying to make is, we are assuming Heupel is a great developer of talent, but with little evidence to support it. We’re fans and we want things to be, so we act like they are.

None of these points means we won’t be successful and win more than we lose under Heupel, but when someone like @de1conley says they are concerned about recruiting, it’s a legitimate concern. In the absence of knowing Heupel is an elite developer, it makes sense that we want/need to recruit at an elite level immediately to give ourselves some wiggle room.

B development with C+ recruiting will win 6 games a year and we’ll be doing this again in 2024.
De1conley was ranting and raving about him for things that had nothing to do with his ability to coach football...... that tends to make his viewpoint slanted...... I feel that recruiting, defense, and red zone scoring is my biggest concerns with this staff.... with that being said, we need to get the fans, the state, and the school 100% behind this guy and moving in the same direction..... we have hit rock bottom with an NCAA mess looming..... no one wanted to come here to coach us..... we need some stability and with his offense games may be fun if nothing else.... I look forward to watching us dominate lower schools and have 800 yards of offense.

If Tee was not the 98 champ quarterback, he would already be released.

If Tee was not the 98 champ QB he would have been given the Azzani treatment from folks on here. At least Azzani tried and was able to score a WR coaching job with the Bears.

With the way things are going down with Tee right now I don’t believe he will get such an opportunity.

If so, they went by rep instead of performance.
Probably but not like he was out of work or anything. He was DC at Florida when they hired him. He recruited well and forced a lot of turnovers and negative plays which is probably why he lasted 3 years. I'm definitely not advocating for Shannon. Just giving my opinion of why he was there. I think he tried to fit the aggressive system but obviously the game is a little past him. Which is why I'm hoping for a young creative DC that came up designing defense to counter the current offenses. Steele seems to have adjusted better so he could work too.

And he failed in the most important task he had. That is like an Olympic 100 meter sprinter that looks good in warm up but false starts when it counts. You don’t give a damn about anything but the race. You are probably more of a clown for thinking this ends any other way besides us seeking a new coach in 4-5 years with no material improvement to the program. Am I angry? Hell yes, hence the burning of my diploma that I no longer care for (I refuse to support such bad prolonged decision making). Why do I still post? Because I like to talk ****. I’ll let you know when your remarks have any impact on my psyche.
I am glad you keep posting. That means we can keep calling you out on crap you post that you know nothing about.

H-E-U-P-E-L. Heupel. Not that I think any of you need this, I’m just putting it out there for future reference and education.
Probably should sticky this then. Not a great history of nailing name spelling. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Mine gets butchered all the time.

Read an article last night that indicated Shannon was brought in at UCF for Florida recruiting connections. Same article indicated part of the reason for UCF’s record last year was 10 players opting out due to Covid. Excuse or reason? Dunno but that’s a lot of bodies to lose...

We could very well suck, but I doubt we see another coaching search so soon. The NCAA violations will be used as an excuse to put it off. I have no idea if JH will succeed or fail, but he'll be given a longer rope to play with because of any sanctions we receive. If he struggles at recruiting, we'll be told it's because of sanctions. If he struggles on the field, we'll be told it's because he doesn't have the players because of sanctions. The truth is, this may turn out to be another crap hire, but maybe a crap hire is what we should expect when you combine the toxic atmosphere of the last 15 years with NCAA trouble. None of the big time coaches want to come here. We need to face that reality.

I am very interested to see who we target in recruiting. Are we going up against Florida, Georgia, Alabama, etc. for WRs, TEs and RBs, or will we be going after guys recruited by UK, USC, Missouri, etc.
Agree. I am worried about this for sure. The class if 22 is easier because of so much TN talent. But are we going to make serious efforts and big recruits?

UCF fans and players really don't seem to like the guy. It really feels like when Cinci fans were thrilled we hired Butch
