Let's see if he wins first because right now he's only following in someone else's foot prints
Winning your conference is a big accomplishment too though. It will never count as much as a SB of course...but it's still another semi-notch in one's belt. Just like how Peyton gets credit for reaching umpteen million postseasons.

Al Washington is 36 years old. Sal Sunseri was not, had only been a DC for a brief period at two small schools, and hasn’t been close since. While it’s not guaranteed to work, it’s not the same.

My point is Sunseri was a highly respected position coach as well. All the makings of a quality DC..same with Washington. Just hope the reward outweighs the risk here.

Washington is a guy who is looking to move up and make a name for himself. He'll recruit hard, and coach aggressively.

It may end up being a mistake, but I like that we're making the mistake going 100 MPH instead of slow and plodding.
Yes! Let's at least do this all out!

Its really hard for me to admit that UT is currently an entry level School for new coaches at the P5 level. If I can convince myself to accept that, then I can be excited about the quality of new coaches/coordinators we are attracting.

We aren’t really much different than other schools. Dan Lanning was coveted and just got a raise at UGA. He’s 34 years old. UGA hired him while at Memphis as the Inside Linebackers coach. I know in that case, the head coach’s strength is defense, but the point remains. All schools are making these hires- you just have to find the rising stars.

It proves to me we’ve been turned down quite a bit for the DC job - now we have to take risks on position coaches who have never called a defense.

Brice also reported we’re offering three year contracts to try to get someone to bite.

I’m not saying this won’t work - this guy has a good resume and looks to be a shooting star in the profession. But no one can say it isn’t risky.

Check! Place in Maryville is an old filling station. Think they have one in Farragut also. Not bad.
Ever been to the Local Joint? Attached to a gas station going towards Fairview. BEST brunch in all of Asheville.

There is also the Universal Joint, which is literally an old car shop...well known though.

Steele and Washington as co DCs a possibility?

Steele is under contract to be whatever they want as a position coach unless he wants to terminate the contract voluntarily. Something similar or just as a position coach could be happening, which would make the Washington hire all that much better.

Positive is his unit has been facing a modern OSU offense and Fields the last 2 years. He should have a good idea on how to beat a modern offense, like how they took it to TLaw.

it is right off of 240? if so thats prob place where most of guys at my bachelor party ended up. never could find the place till I moved there years later. was kinda like 'ohhh thats where that is'.

Edit: NM, this place is off Charlotte.

Washington with Jancek as a position coach
Feels all backwards, but alas. Hope they at least make Jancek "CO-DC" to help take some weight off the young guy. Being DC under Hype will come with a ton of responsibility. A vet like Jancek could be a great asset there, as long as he understands his position/role.
