We aren’t really much different than other schools. Dan Lanning was coveted and just got a raise at UGA. He’s 34 years old. UGA hired him while at Memphis as the Inside Linebackers coach. I know in that case, the head coach’s strength is defense, but the point remains. All schools are making these hires- you just have to find the rising stars.

We are Not in a position to to take a chance on someone that hasn’t ever called plays before. I don’t like that idea

And I doubt Steele will stick around to work under the new guy.

Feels all backwards, but alas. Hope they at least make Jancek "CO-DC" to help take some weight off the young guy. Being DC under Hype will come with a ton of responsibility. A vet like Jancek could be a great asset there, as long as he understands his position/role.

I think the opposite. We went nuclear. We have cleaned house. We are building from the ground up. No-play calling experience isn’t that big of a deal, especially if he turns out to be an elite recruiter.

Reading up in Washington. Impressive stuff just hasn’t called plays. I noticed he was at Cincy with Willie M. I wonder if this is part of the Jancek stuff. Washington as DC with Jancek as Lb, Willie as DB. Jancek is a very good Lb coach and solid recruiter. Meh on Willie. Washington as some DL, LB and offensive coaching experience. I don’t know if he leaves being Ohio boy and long time friend of Day from Bc days

If he has aspirations of becoming a head coach, becoming a DC is a first step

The most important hire for JH and he is going with someone who has never called plays as a DC before. Yikes. Huge risk. But I also kind of love it. Rising star and good recruiter. Maybe we can keep on Steele to be a position coach and help a little. This guy, Steele, and Garner would be lethal on the trail.

Here we go again. Don't want this coach, don't want that coach. Even though you know basically nothing about either coach. What UT needs top to bottom right now is a 180 degree departure from what has been here. Would rather have a young, hungry personable players coach with a system the players understand and will play hard and fast in. We've had "experienced" guys who screamed, yelled , brow beat, and confused players and got nothing out of them. And no, I am not soft on players, but I understand how the game and how kids have evolved. Old coaches like me who don't evolve and adapt get left behind.
