If he's using an offer from us to further his career, good for him. That's how business works. Sucks for us, but it doesn't speak badly of him IMO. Honestly, given all the unknowns UT is facing, I can't say that sole DC at UT is better than Co-DC at Ohio State. If he is named Co-DC at Ohio State, it's just a title. I doubt it comes with any real power. Here, he'd be the man calling the shots. But here could also be career suicide if it doesn't work out. Dude's stuck between a rock and a hard place, but if he does come to UT, he'll be highly motivated to succeed. Let's face it, whoever we get will be stepping into a rough situation. But I agree, we'll probably be underwhelmed by whoever is ultimately hired.I wasn't being hateful. I am starting to feel as hopeless as you. This is ridiculous...I mean it is starting to look like literally nobody worth a wants this job.
Washington ain't coming...he is just Gundying us, just using us as leverage to force a promotion and a raise out of OSU sooner than they wanted to do it. That is why I said don't worry about him, I have a being we are going to wish a guy like him had taken the job by the time this is over with.
We are an interesting bunch....we don’t want Washington because he’s never called plays before, but then automatically think that OSU (who has been infinitely more successful than us) will hire him on the spot as DC when given the chance even though he’s never called plays.
All of that is to say that if he’s good enough for OSU, he’s good enough for here.
But eventually (according to their boards and it makes sense) he will become the full DC and then call plays for OSU. My guess is it would be in the next year or so because I could see Coombs going back to the NFL.To keep him, they'll probably make him Co-DC. It's just a title. No real power. He won't be calling the defense. But it still comes with prestige.
It wouldn't surprise me if he's being groomed to be their DC. Not convinced it happens as soon as you project. And if he stays there, he's stepping into a situation where he's more likely to succeed. I hate Ohio State, but their defense is a machine, stocked with 4-5* talent. It's a lot easier to succeed there. But eventually (according to their boards and it makes sense) he will become the full DC and then call plays for OSU. I don't like people feigning interest when they have no absolutely no intention of taking the job. It is a total waste of everyones time and resources. I hate selfish people that don't operate in good faith. If he's using an offer from us to further his career, good for him. That's how business works. The Weeknd is superficial? Ok. I really don't know much about him.
But a critique of our beauty obsessed society? Don't see anything wrong with that. Jmo
True. Coombs did really well with the Titans DB’s (as evidenced by how terrible they were this past year) and has continued his success at OSU. He might feel that itch to get back into the league quick, but who knows. It wouldn't surprise me if he's being groomed to be their DC. Not convinced it happens as soon as you project. Not only that, but coordinating a defense with our new style of offense on the other side is like fighting with one hand tied behind your back. The reality of the situation is we are not currently seen as a successful program, and we're facing possible NCAA sanctions. People look at us and wonder if coming here is worth the risk to their career. I'd certainly give Washington a chance. I think he has a lot of potential. Would I prefer someone who's had previous success at being a DC? Of course. But as far as going with someone who doesn't have that on his resume, I think Washington is the type you take that risk on. But does he want to take the risk on us if staying at Ohio State and waiting on something better is an option? Can anyone actually blame the guy if he turns us down?
If another company approached you about a job making more money, but your current company stepped up and matched, is it selfish to stay?I don't like people feigning interest when they have no absolutely no intention of taking the job. All that being said..I have no idea if that is really the case..who knows? I know I hate Gundy and I think he is a punk PoS.
Sorry if this was already posted, and I too would rather focus on the DC search, but THIS STAT BLEW MY BRAIN APART
