After doing some more digging on Conklin, it wouldn’t be a bad hire. The guy knows about defending up tempo offenses. Might be a really good get. And from what AP and Hubbs said, he really wants the job. That’s important.

Just because you are a fan doesn't mean it's the best fit for the player and their future. It's about what gets you to your goal in life. I love Tennessee and have taught my kids to love Tennessee but it is strictly a business decision with recruitment. I would tell my kid to look at what the university offers with education, campus, development at the position, relationship with the coach and life after with contact/job development. Fandom is last, because that is the least of my worries for my child. Football or any other sport should be about what will get me to where I want to go in life. If it's Tennessee, so be it, but not everyone will fit at Tennessee.

As someone who has consumed vast quantities of both in my past I can say with absolute conviction that alcohol is by far a worse drug...far more bad things happen because of alcohol consumption.

Don’t “un-decide”, just give your fandom proper perspective. The reality is that all these sports are just games there are things WAY more important in life than Tennessee athletics.

You get a kid here for that or any other reason except his ability to help the team is going to bite you. We have got several over the years that matched that exact scenario and few have worked out as we had hoped. (Vic Wharton for example) We need to remember these kids read their press and they all think they are ready and then reality slaps them up side their head, playing time is not there as they or their family had hoped then the excuses start, the finger pointing begins they end up transferring and you wasted a scholarship.

I think Heupel's offense will sell its self to a young QB and if not Ty. I fell pretty sure there will be others that are as good and or better suited for what or new HC plans to do. Winning is what draws the top kids and if things go as we hope "SEALING OFF " the state want be that hard especially for those that have dreamed of playing on THE HILL.

Y'all can say what you want, but refusing to black list a friend and colleague of 20 years on the back of unsubstantiated accusations shows character... Not a lack of character. Jmo.

Like Urban or not, the convenient thing to do would be to hire someone else and avoid the criticism. I can respect someone who does what they think is right instead of what is convenient. Especially these days.

Beyond silly at this point. Freaking offer Conklin or T-Rob and finish this thing. Only thing I can think of with Conklin is his season starting and the optics of that. Would you have your DC tied up through April

It’s inviting trouble before you even get started. I get your point whilst remembering this guy’s track record. Aggravated it as only Urban can by glowing over Doyle dating back to “their time together at Utah” which is fictional...Doyle was there one season way before Urban’s tenure. Zach Smith redeaux.

I doubt he would much hesitation leaving as DB coach to a place he just got too for a DC job in SEC a league he is been in for over a decade

It's one thing to let a coach finish a season with a bowl game.
It's a whole nother thing to let you new DC to miss the entire spring because he coaching a "season" in the spring due to the China virus.
If he's the guy, then it's time to get to work at UT.
