We should just open up the bank vault and offer Jim Leonard, DC at Wisconsin. Only 37 and has coached a top 10 defense in 3 of his 4 years. It would be a tough pull given he is at his alma mater. Don’t assume he won’t come (which is likely), but throw out a huge offer and make him say no. What’s the harm?

Well I just spent an house locating a frozen pipe that burst in our house.

And still no DC.

What a day.
I just spent most of the morning reinforcing any weak spots (that allow cold) to hopefully prevent that the next couple days. Nothing worse than dealing with water issues when it’s colder than a well diggers butt.

But he opted out and didn’t coach

That’s why I am asking for clarity why
Shoop had personal issues, and asked for a leave. He coached in an off the field role, then resigned. I don’t know the specifics of his personal issues. Michigan was pretty supportive and flexible, but he didn’t come back.

Thanks

then in no way does he need to even have a chance at our DC job

I was hesitant to share that, but it’s common knowledge. He’s a decent man, and a very good coach. When someone has a “personal issue” it could be anything from a substance problem to a family medical issue. I definitely wouldn’t judge him based on that information. I just know he needed time off, and then needed more.

Don’t tell that to @MarcoVol. He thinks Shoop is a terrible coach. He is a good coach. Thank you for sharing.

No I don’t judge him at all and would love him as DC a few years after getting over this. He needs a job with less responsibility first imo

No way he’d come here for any amount of money. He just turned down the Green Bay DC position a wk or so ago.

I would love to have him, but you’re right that it’s unlikely - He just turned down the Green Bay Packers DC job a little over a week ago, in which his salary would’ve doubled, if not tripled. Under no circumstance would come here.

DC: Bob Shoop
DL: Garner
LB: Jancek
DB: Clinkscale
Safeties: Martinez (they seem hell bent on bringing him)

I think this would be a strong staff so I doubt it happens. Bob Shoop is a great DC who was ruined by meddling Butch. He would fit what JH wants.
While I don't necessarily completely disagree with ya, I just have a bad taste with Shoop. I know he may have been handicapped by the head coach as rumor had it but still shoulda won the east that year IMO.

I blame more on Butch and lack of strength and conditioning. We were injury riddled by the end of the season. Like really bad. It was ridiculous.
