Very true but a name I just read tonight was the same name I read two weeks ago. I think we really wanted Washington but after that does anyone know for any certainty we actually offered anyone?

Well. This is true I suppose. Looks like AP just said we did offer House. But, nobody knows anything either.

Why can’t we make an offer to a coach that it just doesn’t matter what their current team counters with.

They might as well suck it up. We are going to have to badly overpay to get a decent coach...it is inevitable. Just quit beating around the bush and get it done.

They have been getting raises up to a million or so..... that’s not money to sneeze at and those positions offer a lot more stability than ours do.

He gets misquoted here so much. The entire Pruitt thing posters made it sound like he thought he was staying. He only said he was staying unless the investigation was bad and he ended up being exactly right while posters claimed he was wrong.

He was pretty salty about it. I got the feeling that he was defending him the whole way, at least until it was apparent he was not staying. He also has been pretty derisive about the fanbase, in general. So, people calling him out is on him, IMO.

Yeah it's just freezing rain and sleet mix right now. I don't think it is supposed to start snowing until later tonight but mainly tomorrow.

I haven’t heard Washington got his pay doubled, maybe he did. A million is a lot for a position coach. Like you say, it’s more about the instability of the program. Washington takes this job for 1.25 million without the instability.

I believe, after talking to people I trust throughout the process, it was a poor decision to turn to Heupel once Tony Elliott turned us down.

But there’s no point in crying over spilled milk, so let’s move past that: now, I believe we are seeing one of the consequences of that hire: defensive coaches know Heupel’s offense will make their lives very difficult.

It also appears to me that the defensive staff will be built for the prospective coordinator, with Rodney Garner and Willie Martinez basically locks at this point.

And to top it all off, Heupel does not appear to have total authority in these interviews to hire who he wants - something that should give a potential DC pause.

I don't like those, either. I don't think you have nearly enough information to make that judgment. Again, if we get the right guy, it won't be in spite of the plan. If we get the wrong guy, then I think we can all agree the search was a failure. It does not matter to me about the optics. We just need a good DC. I still think we get one.

We very well could still end up with a “good DC,” but it doesn’t mean this process should give us any confidence.

I think the right school sure he would take it. He could easily be a HC after a good 3-4 years as a DC

And to add to this.....my 6 month old GSP. I wasn't able to hunt today so I hiked 4 miles in the Norris Watershed. His GPS collar says he logged 7, this is with elevation. I came home and have thrown a bumper off and on for nearly two hours. The past hour in complete darkness, I felt like an icicle when I came in. I cant stress how much drive and energy hunting dogs have. You really need to be prepared for the dogs needs. I knew what I was getting into and it still taxes me on certain days. My pup has re-affirmed the saying a tired dog is a good dog. Good luck in your decision.

I have a 4 year old GSP also. Had a weimaraner prior to her. I thought my weimaraner had a lot of energy until we got her. Not even in the same stratosphere. She can run from daylight to dark and still have energy. When she comes in the house she still hunts nonstop inside. She wants to be by somebody's side all of the time.

If you think coaches don’t have 5-10 year plans I can’t help you. Taking a raise for a 2-3 year stint that is likely to fail isnt appealing to coaches as they want more $ over the long haul not the short. It’s not like they are buying Ramon noodles for their valentines dinner anyways. They want long term Situations as they should

We differ on that point. I am looking at body of work vs. the time DW and JH have been here. If all the media reports are to be believed, and honestly, who knows, then it does sound like it has been a struggle. And, maybe it has. I think that DW is savvy enough to know that it is going to take work to get the quality of coaches we want to come here. It does not mean we are settling for someone; it means I believe he will leave no stone unturned, do his diligence, and help JH find the best staff possible.
