And, you have absolutely no way to know how accurate those projections are. You can add numbers, but your eight year crystal ball is broke.look at it this way
Choice one: staying put
Year1-2 750k
Years 3-5 1.5mil
Years 6-8 5mil
That’s 21 mil
choice 2: taking Vols DC
Years 1-3 1.5
Years 4-8 750k
That’s 8.25 mil

I think it’s pretty simple: there’s something behind the scenes, some stipulation or contract clause, that’s making these guys back out at the 10 yard line.We differ on that point. I am looking at body of work vs. the time DW and JH have been here. If all the media reports are to be believed, and honestly, who knows, then it does sound like it has been a struggle. And, maybe it has. I think that DW is savvy enough to know that it is going to take work to get the quality of coaches we want to come here. It does not mean we are settling for someone; it means I believe he will leave no stone unturned, do his diligence, and help JH find the best staff possible.
I have no doubt coaches have long range plans. They also have great confidence in their ability. If the stepping stone to that bigger salary is a DC, many guys are going to take it. Not because they want to get paid now, but because they think it will get them to their ultimate goal.As I said before coaches have 10 year plans. It’s not just about taking the highest playing job for 2-3 years when that job is likely to fail.
I’ve said it before but it’s why Vandy will never be able to hire a top notch high profile coordinator. It’s the same kind of thinking
I believe, after talking to people I trust throughout the process, it was a poor decision to turn to Heupel once Tony Elliott turned us down.
But there’s no point in crying over spilled milk, so let’s move past that: now, I believe we are seeing one of the consequences of that hire: defensive coaches know Heupel’s offense will make their lives very difficult.
It also appears to me that the defensive staff will be built for the prospective coordinator, with Rodney Garner and Willie Martinez basically locks at this point.
And to top it all off, Heupel does not appear to have total authority in these interviews to hire who he wants - something that should give a potential DC pause.
It’s more because you just won’t quit talking. You have a made up idea about everything, all the time. Then you follow up with posts like this...saying “ I don’t know what to tell you.” Cause your so smart like that.If you think coaches don’t have 5-10 year plans I can’t help you. Taking a raise for a 2-3 year stint that is likely to fail isnt appealing to coaches as they want more $ over the long haul not the short. It’s not like they are buying Ramon noodles for their valentines dinner anyways. They want long term Situations as they should
I likely will. There is always something behind the scenes. No one has all the facts. I don't care who it is.I think it’s pretty simple: there’s something behind the scenes, some stipulation or contract clause, that’s making these guys back out at the 10 yard line.
Eventually we will hire someone, of course, and that person will have enough positive marks on his resume for us to talk ourselves into it.
Even Pruitt, the collosal failure, the anti-defensive-guru, even got a job in the league. Good coaches always rebound. It may delay their trajectory but it doesn't sentence them to coaching purgatory if they're good coaches. As I said before coaches have 10 year plans. VQ has reported DW is heavily involved in the interview process, which is unusual.Well I’m glad the people you trust know as much they do. I have absolutely no clue if Elliott was offered the job at all but, even if he was, considering you have no clue who our next DC will be, how do you know he had no say in any hire?
