Lol I'm not arguing Tee would be better - and the only time I advocated for him was when it seemed like Pruitt was coming back. It was basically an "anything would be better than this guy" idea.

Anyway, I'm not sure the results will be substantially different between Heupel, Tee, Dykes, Elliot, Chadwell, etc. We needed a homerun and we didn't get it.

Who exactly would fit the "homerun' category? The biggest name that surfaced with James Franklin, and I don't consider him as such.

Seriously, if we play sloppy, you better damn well believe I'll be complaining about coaching, and it'll be justified. Even with talent limitations, sloppy play is always open to criticism. That's just a fact. A good coach instills discipline. I know it's been awhile since we've actually seen that, but that alone should tell us a lot about this staff this year. It's one thing to be beat by the other team, it's quite another to beat yourself.

LA pointed to this and I tend to agree. I think had you just made the move to fire Fulmer and Pruitt without any sort of investigation you could have gone for the homerun.

I think Heupel is solid, and he's still young in his career so I definitely think he could become a legit homerun type coach. I for sure hope that's the case at least.
Literally nobody knows. Kingston is hoping he can come back in 3-4 years with an "I told you so" take. Nobody knows how Heup will do. All we know for sure is that he can coach offense and develop QB's. We'll see what happens on defense.

I'm judging him this year on the fact that the roster he's inherited is the best roster any of our coaches since the Fulmer transition to Kiffin. I judging him on the level of effort we see given each week, weather or not the kids finish the game, and how his offense stacks up against SEC defenses. I'm judging him based on the impact his coaching staff has as a cohesive unit, and how he handles the rigors of an SEC schedule, and how he adapts from week to week.

For me the judgement bar in terms of wins and losses sits at 6. I don't think that's an unfair expectation based on this team's talent.
Effort. I've got to see effort.

Yeah, I don't think there was one. We talked to every big name and were shot down.

But just because we didn't get one doesn't mean we didn't need one.

I'm not even that low on Heupel besides the fact I don't think he can recruit. Other than that, he's right in line with a number of bargain bin hires we could have made.

I’ll just say that although the W/L records for Heupel haven’t been getting better, his SOS-adjusted efficiency metrics are stable and excellent, especially on offense.

Will post tomorrow with numbers/analysis if he turns out to be the guy.
Did we ever get these metrics?

I know most of you don’t like the idea because it’s not an exciting name, but having seen Heupels teams in person a few times over the last few years, we could do a lot ****ing worse. He’s a legit program builder and his teams are explosive. I don’t hate it.
@Geaux_Vols is a smart dude.

Eh, I'm still in wait and see on the "he can coach offense and develop QBs". I HOPE he can, but I also remember being told Pruitt could coach defense and develop CBs. We see where that got us.

Well said!
I have zero idea what I'm looking for "on film."
The only thing I can see, is when I go to a High School game, and so-n-so dominates, then I think he's pretty good.

It's like an average golfer trying to critique a golf swing..............

Here ya go VN.........Tell me every detail that is right and wrong. GO

Can you give me a bigger view, more than one angle and the ability to slow down the speed?

Her swing makes my back hurt, so there’s that...

Name a QB he's coached that has been bad. Show me an offense he has coached that hasn't been good. Again, Pruitt had never been a head coach and was a disaster. Heup has coached elite offenses and developed QB's at Utah State, OK, Mizzou, and UCF. Sam Bradford, Drew Locke, Dillion Gabriel, the list goes on and on.

Can I hold you to a win prediction this year? What do you think?
I've been saying 6-8 for a month now. Answer the question. You know what's going on, you know what the future holds, you know that Heup isn't going to make it before he's coached his first spring game. Let me know what's happening in the stock market 5 years from now. I need a good investment.

And Pruitt had coached NC defenses and put CBs in the NFL. For whatever reason, coaches have a hard time translating what they did elsewhere to UT. I sincerely hope Heupel kicks ass here and produces high powered, record breaking offenses and QBs, but I still need to see it to believe it. I guarantee I want to win as bad as you or anyone else on this board or in all of UT fandom, but we've seen how we build our expectations only to be severely disappointed. I think we will eventually get back to the mountaintop, but I have zero idea when, or if I'll be alive to see it. God, I hope so.

OK, got it. I'll say 3-5 wins.

And Bass, you know as well as anyone that Tennessee's ineptitude is far more certain a bet than anything to do with the stock market.

Sure, so you're hoping for an "I told you so" opportunity instead of admitting you have no idea what's going to happen. Heupel can coach offenses and QB's. Can Tim Banks coach defense? Can we win with this offense in the SEC? I don't know, and guess what, neither do you. So stop pretending like you do.
