Literally nobody knows. Kingston is hoping he can come back in 3-4 years with an "I told you so" take. Nobody knows how Heup will do. All we know for sure is that he can coach offense and develop QB's. We'll see what happens on defense.
Heupel is the most successful coach we've hired since Majors. Even as an OC he had some good offenses. Look at the before and after on his QBs.

I haven't seen Milton play much, but if CJH sees potential, good bet it's there. Milton didn't transfer to sit, so I think he has the skillset they want and expects to be the guy. We need that kind of confidence. If one of the current QBs can up his game and earn the job, good for him and good for us.

Considering our LB coach has went against him in practice plenty of times... i would like to think if the dude was just ass he wouldn’t be a take. They have to see something.

Good grief. We hired Majors in what 1977? It’s now 2021. And Heupel is the most successful coach we have hired in that time frame. Let that sink in.

Bass you damn near changed your last name to Pruitt when he was carrying around that paint ball gun with his tongue sticking out. 😂😂
I’m a homer. I don’t deny it. But I can’t imagine wanting another coordinator following Pruitt, who also coaches only elite talent and who has 0 HC experience

You said exactly what I wanted to post, if only I was faster at posting than you, after Pruitt, I was really gun shy on having another coordinator hired as HC, right or wrong.

Bass is a homer, but he called out Pruitt when it was obvious it was over. There was still reason to hang on going into year 3 -- I almost got on board, and I never quite bought into Pruitt.

Elliott is too much of a roll of the dice. You can be phenomenal coordinator and a brilliant football mind and an absolute garbage CEO. At least Heupel has some HC chops.

It’s a crap shoot either way.

Kirby: hit
Pruitt: miss
Mullen: hit
Muschamp: miss
Lincoln Riley: hit
Chad Morris: miss

There’s no rhyme or reason or way to predict how any person is going to handle being the head coach at a major program. I truly believe you are no less likely for success hiring a former player that has never coached like dion or Eddie George than you would be hiring an elite coordinator or an proven small school head coach.

There is plenty of rhyme and reason. In order:

Winning program/lots of prior stability
Losing program/lots of recent turnover
Winning program/lots of prior stability
Losing program/lots of recent turnover
Winning program/lots of prior stability
Losing program/lots of prior turnover

When is the last coordinator that took over a losing P5 program with multiple coaches over the prior decade and it worked out? I'm sure there are exceptions, but that's the rule.

One wonders how Pruitt would have done at Georgia or how Kirby would have done here.
