Kirby has achieved nothing Richt hasn't achieved except play for a national title, and Richt arguably would have had two shots at one (2002, 2012) if we had the playoff format that allowed Kirby to play for one.
Meanwhile, Pruitt, while demonstrating some shocking ineptitude as a head coach, was working with a lot less talent. Imagine if he'd had a quarterback that was even serviceable (Maurer and Shrout clearly weren't it, either). Imagine if he'd had the 2015 UT squad.
I'm not saying it's definitive one way or the other, but it would be a fascinating case study.
Pruitt and Kirby are one in the same in the stone age offense. The way Kirby has morphed the saban defense - 2 gap odf front into this balanced machine that does both is super impressive imo. They also do the most creative things on defense imo. I used to not be so high on Kirby but the more I’ve studied their defense the more impressive i think he is. But he has botched that QB room and needs to get out of the stone age with their offense
It’s this Knoxville sports radio caller who has been pestering local hosts since the early 90’s. Used to go by Small Mike, a/k/a Mike, at some point became The Cattleman for reasons I’m not sure about. He’s basically been banned from every major call in show for being a troll. I know Basilio banned him for saying terrible things about Pat Summit after her Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Big stan for Lane Kiffin to be Coach at Tennessee. Every once in a while he’ll sneak past the screeners and get in with Jimmy Hyams.I’ve never heard of this. Care to elaborate?
Cryer likes him some Joe. He defended him after one of his losses, saying that his receivers weren't getting open and not all the blame should be on him. I am very interested to see what Heupel can get out of him.“I would always just kind of walk over and start looking at their personnel, and I was like, ‘Who is that cat?” Meyer said on FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff. “That is a Cam Newton lookalike, and he’s got a hose and he can run.”
Urban Meyer on Joe Milton
You've taken my stance to a much further place than I have. I'm just saying first time HC don't work out at struggling P5 programs as a rule, not that all HC who we think will work out end up working out.Tom Herman, Jim Harbaugh, James Franklin,n Jimbo, Charlie strong at Texas, Scott Frost at Nebraska, Chip Kelly were all looked at as grand slam hires with head coaching experience and none have worked out like they hoped and some have just been flat out disasters.
Then you got Florida “settled” for Mullen, Ed Orgeron was laughed at, Kirby was just another saban assistant,
Heupel, harsin, or Beamer? They are all just a coin flip. It’s probably more likely all 3 of them fail vs any of them really succeeding based on history.
How many of those examples are there at schools that at least have the resources to consistently be in the top 25 most years. You've taken my stance to a much further place than I have. You're way over simplifying a complex situation. Patriots mortgaged their future while they had Brady and are now paying the price for that. Brady was/is incredible, amazing. But put him on a historically bad Browns team of a decade ago and he doesn't survive the first couple years.Idk man bellicheck killed it this year. Pretty obvious Brady needed him.
Don't know. But those first time HC going to struggling programs keep getting fired, which is what I mean by "they don't work out." It's almost a guarantee they'll be fired in 4 or fewer years. Not saying they aren't good coaches and they'd have failed anywhere, I'm saying learning how to be a HC at a struggling P5 program is just too much. How many of those examples are there at schools that at least have the resources to consistently be in the top 25 most years.
Agreed. Bill did amazing things swapping out personnel, filling supposed gaps, getting players to excel at role play, etc. but sooner or later it had to end. Losing Hernandez, Brady, Gronk, Antonio, for one reason or another then getting stuck with Cam who was never the same after the SB loss (confidence blended with injuries) put a period on it last year...You're way over simplifying a complex situation. That's not a knock on Brady. No QB ever could single handedly turn around a program. In the same way Tannehill went to a different program and magically looked better. He didn't change, his supporting cast did. Put any QB on a horrific team and they'll look horrific.
I dont think it matters much, for a defensive wizard our defense was bad under Pruitt. 2. I hate that we still suck, but im kind of glad hes gone, i dont want a bammer being the one that brought success back to the hill.I really wonder what would’ve happened if Yurcich hadn’t turned down Pruitt (leading to us hiring Chaney).
