Our previous discussion was about whether Coach Rick Byrd would have taken the UT job if he was offered. Many said yes. I said no. His answer to me was that it would have been extremely difficult, but he probably would have left Belmont. He did say in hindsight, he's very happy the way it all turned out. I guess he gave me the PC answer before, and opened up about it now we are closer fiends. The $$$'s was too good to pass up.

That’s made clear by all of the draft picks we have had come from UT lately... 🙄
Development.

Mullen recruited no better than Pruitt and 3 years later (or all 3 years) they were in a completely different stratosphere. Argued that in Y1 and some didn't believe it, just thought UF's 4-7 team was actually that much better than our 4-8 team.

That is where lack of development and scheme gets you. There's no way we just happen to pick worse players year after year after year after year despite every recruiting service in existence agreeing our recruits are just as good, if not better, than UF's. Or take TAMU or Auburn as other examples.

It was always a hypothetical. I respect him and couldn’t believe he would have passed on the challenge. It most likely ended up better for him.

Josh Palmer just got drafted off of two plays having done **** all for his entire career here.

Sometimes NFL scouts can find talent in the **** pile but they aren't magicians or psychics. 4 stars doesn't mean sit around not getting developed for 4 years and then be a 1-3 round pick. It obviously doesn't work that way. High school evaluations are built on potential, not day 1 ability to hit the field and be an All-American.

This idea that we recruited the exact wrong 25 highly sought after players every year is just silliness. An excuse we dole out for coaches after they take the previous staff's underdeveloped players and continue to underdevelop them.

Nigel Warrior. Darrell Taylor. Jajuan Jennings. Daniel Bituli. Even Beldar and his merry band of morons were able to turn around a handful of players and have them play to their potential. A good coach will do that for most of the players on the roster. A bad one won't. If it makes you feel better to believe it isn't the coaching, we just happened to recruit 70+ busts, go for it. We'll be looking for a new coach in 3 years regardless if the roster doesn't show improvement.

Yes but why we didn't hire UVA's golf coach?

I know that’s a big part of it, but I also wonder if the higher rated recruits we got were ones that were overrated by rivals and 247, and other schools like florida didn’t really want them that bad, because the coaches new they were

I’m just saying, maybe some weren’t nearly as highly sought after as we thought

He could clearly recruit just fine. This "all the wrong 4 stars" is an excuse we've now trotted out three times to justify bad coaches losing games they shouldn't lose with superior talent. It just isn't the case.

I’m just saying I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. It’s not a coincidence we were bad when that 2018 became upperclassmen.

14 career tackles as well.

Pass? Sounds like a JJP type, high 4* recruit with 2* history.

Yeah its suspect that he hasn't played since 2019.

You also gotta wonder the shape he is in.

Michigan took an early lead for Anthony and while his recruitment ended up playing out until after his senior season, it was pretty clear from the early going that he was going to end up as a Wolverine.
AT MICHIGAN
Playing alongside fellow five-star Dylan Moses at IMG Academy, Anthony stood out for his productivity and nose for the ball. Unfortunately that never translated to the college level, where he struggled to find playing time at Michigan. After redshirting in 2017, Anthony played in seven games in 2018, and then competed in nine more as a redshirt sophomore in 2019, although most of his action came on special teams. After recording just 14 tackles, one tackle for loss and one sack over his three years with the program, he announced plans to transfer in December. After graduating last month, Anthony hit the portal this week. He will now have two years of eligibility remaining and can play in 2020.

POTENTIAL LANDING SPOTS
This is another tough case because it's so late in the game, but perhaps Anthony will look at options in the Big 10 or Pac-12, especially given the likely attrition of players leaving early for the NFL Draft. Maryland would make sense as a match, but as with anyone transferring right now, it's all about making the numbers work.
FARRELL'S TAKE

It’s puzzling that he didn’t make an impact at Michigan at all as he was perfect for that Jabrill Peppers role. There is talent still there but with little time left to make an impact and the uncertainty of college football his rating is low for a former 5 star.”-- National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell
