It does ruin things because its the "give an inch take a mile" concept. See how quickly it has escalated?
I have been reading the post and the pro's and con's of paying players and the money made by the schools, conferences and the NCAA and was wondering has anyone ever really done a study on where all the money really goes and how it is used. Is it scholarships, facilities, back to the schools or someones pocket and if so who's pocket, I have no idea.
IF college or amateur sports, as we know it, were to go away and the minor leagues are formed it could put a whole new spin on getting paid to play. The average sports scholarship for D1 is about $36,000 and the average minor league baseball player makes about $ 15,000 so with that being said some had better be careful for what they are asking for because they just might get it in the long run.
De La Salle doesn’t work with EE’s is my understanding. Big reason why Khalil McKenzie transferred to Concord and lost his senior season.Absolutely! But that shows you how far behind he is other people in his class.
And also, why wasn’t he an EE? Did he not want to be because he wanted to be at home around his family? If so, that fits the concerning narrative Hubbs and Price were sharing....he almost left and/or didn’t come back to Knoxville 3 different times while at TN because he was homesick.
There's a person or two on VQ that give off a super weird jealousy vibe. Every time paying players comes up they're obsessed with making sure someone collects taxes on their income and talking how they should no longer receive a scholarship if they receive a dime on their own time. Like really weird stuff. It really does feel like they'd rather just keep these kids down or are jealous a college kid might make more than them one day, a need for superiority or desire to punish them.Exactly. I'll never understand how people are so passionate about keeping the poorer kids/little guy down in favor of the bureaucrats and school admins. Why do people fight so hard to keep kids from earning money off their talents?
I think a salary cap would improve college football tremendously. Parity is long, long gone in college football. It's pretty much OSU Bama Clemson now, with a few in the next tier, then everyone else. Make college football a minor league system, pay the players, bring back parity.
How many snaps did Pruitt play at linebacker or quarterback last year? He wasn't the only problem. The coaching was atrocious. There is no doubt about that. However, the atrocious coaching shows up through players' crappy play on the field. Most of those guys that received that atrocious coaching over the last several years are still here, and they have to be deprogrammed.Do you realize we were 3-7 because our head coach was terrible? That is why he is no longer here.
Part of coaching is developing fundamentals and not accepting a bad display of such. Another is scheming to your talent...no matter the level. I don’t see any success story on that side of the ledger. How many snaps did Pruitt play at linebacker or quarterback last year? He wasn't the only problem. The coaching was atrocious. Our defense last year was a lot worse than that ranking would lead you to believe. When teams got a lead on us last year, they were able to play more conservatively against us because they knew our offense was horrific and we were no threat to close the scoring gap. Had our offense scored more, our defense would have given up more points.Offense was the issue. 102nd in total offense. Defense was decent at 65th
That has always been my position. I want the dudes that don't givaisht about the school they attend, and are just about money to go the f on and be one of the thousands of failed professionals with a dead end life. I don't watch pro sports much at all anymore...money ruins everything.Don't get me wrong I don't think it is a good idea but I also don't know all the ins and outs of the rules. I think the NFL and the NBA are the ones that benefit the most and this isn't news to anyone. I think they both should do like MLB and the NHL and have a minor league. If a kid wants to get paid they can go that route and if they want a education they can go to college.
You really are too blind to see how this will be abused to even further erode competitive integrity? You are a smart guy...you know what this will do and it is horse.I'd say we should first see if it has even one major iota of "ruining" the sport before blowing it all up lol. Chaos sounds good at times, but rarely turns out well.
I know people like the idea of amateurism, but it's already been dead for a good while and yet we still love the sport. Really don't see how NiL is going to change anything. 10 years from now, it will probably be completely forgettable. Oh, and we'll have NCAA College Football 2023 or whenever they make the next one.
Honestly my bigger concern is mass transferring. Even pro sports have contracts, so there is some restraint to movement. Now we're close to having situations where your top recruits, who were recruited by your rivals, will just be re-recruited 4 months into their freshman season by the same schools that were runner-ups during the HS recruitment.
I agree college coaches make way to much money. I have often wondered why all the brilliant football minds aren't coaching in the NFL. I hear all the time about college coaches going to NFL coaching camps and I may be wrong but I don't think they are brought in to lead any of the meetings.Do minor league coaches make $10mm a year? It's nowhere close to the same level in any way, shape, or form.
Why is there no argument for coaches making way less? Why is that essentially all extra money can go to coaches - no problem - but players want a piece of the pie and there's resistance.
Fact is there's plenty of money to go around, but so far the system has chosen to funnel it to coaches. "Amateur coaches" and yet that has never been an issue.
Only so many HC gigs. More in college.I agree college coaches make way to much money. I have often wondered why all the brilliant football minds aren't coaching in the NFL. You are too muchThey let me form my own opinions not to long ago and the nice man in the white coat let me write them down. After they read them the nice man feel out of his chair, the nurse screamed and passed out and the big nice guys gave me more SKITTLES and led me back to my corner.......I did get a new coloring book and a brand new box of Crayons as some kind of prize I guess, so I've got that going for me. Really nice place, yes indeed, really nice and the food's good too.
