Curious as to your thoughts on the portal and how it impacts HS classes going forward? In listening to Brock Huard and EJ Manuel on their afternoon show on ESPNU radio yesterday, they and their guests were discussing that leaving numerous spots for transfers will be the 'norm' going forward. And while I agree that historically the 4 year HS player model is how teams have been built, one could argue the failure rate of HS vs. Transfer player is similar.

Another point to take into consideration is that, up until recent history, kids going the transfer route were largely under performing, or disciplinary risks, which were why they were there to begin with. In today's landscape we're seeing more and more kids that are there for reasons like being buried on an extremely deep depth chart or having the opportunity to change their minds because of a coaching change, or just because. To me, the stigma of the transfer player has all but evaporated. I tend to think the days of filling a class with 25 HS kids is gone.

100%.

To sign nothing but or say, over 90% HS players is naive. Programs lose a bunch over the course of 3-4 years without the rule change. That just accelerated, probably increased the rate 50% IMO. CFB's version of limited free agency.

So either this dude was part of the problem and this move should've happened when the rest of the guilty were terminated...or this dude was part of the problem because his actions helped facilitate the NCAA being involved? Either way, sounds like we've eliminated a problem? Maybe that's too much conjecture on my part. Who's got the background story here?

I’m usually on board with no transfers, but Mullen has proven me wrong as much as I’d hate to say it. Some of those guys may not be NFL guys, but they do help that team win.

I expect I will get heat for this, but I will have to be shown that Heupel can coach like Mullen before I believe it.

I don't mind leaving a few spots open for transfers. I just think that, in our specific case, the roster is so depleted there is no quick fix. 3-5 transfers in a year is probably the new norm. I'd be nervous about going any higher.

We need players that will be ready to play in 2022, 2023, 2024.

And don’t think for a second there aren’t coaches out there “encouraging” kids to hit the portal. It’s a way to open up a roster spot and go get someone else you think can help improve your team.

If there’s a way for coaches to take advantage of a rule, they’ll find it.

Unintended consequences.

Not only that, but in situations such as ours, it allows roster overhaul much faster than ever before. IMO the NCAA will have to eliminate the 25/year cap and allow schools to manage to the total 85 limit very soon. This will eliminate the need for waivers to get initial counters spots back.

That is - assuming that they have any say at all after the dust settles around NIL.

Some interesting stuff in there. Notably that they expect at least a one year bowl ban and that Pruitt is still trying recoup more than 12 million. Was hoping to avoid the bowl ban somehow.

Pruitt can try every which way possible, but until he actually files a lawsuit, it means nothing. Filing a lawsuit could open up a big can of worms for him...his decision.

Partially... most people my age and a bit younger are raging SJWs on social media. Not I good Sir.

I remember in 2012-14 when we were categorized as the most negative people here. But your reputation precedes you, I’ve lost all my ability to care enough to be negative. The fact you can keep the **** train rolling is impressive lmao
