I'm now curious - if a UCF fan is upset we stole their AD and their AD hired the football HC they don't care for - why does the UCF fan still like the now former AD? It's not like UCF is a household name in all sports.

Sounds like a what have you do for me lately type fan. We know those types here.

Realistically? Probably no one. Unrealistically? Like, Urban Meyer or someone of that caliber. I just think we have too much rebuilding to do in the short term that anyone was going to face a steep hill.

But I'm like you, I want to see us start beating up on bad teams and see if we can spark some excitement. Then comes the recruiting. Then who knows?

ETA: I take that back. If James Franklin was as close as it seemed to count him as realistic, I think he could've had us in Atlanta inside of 4 years. I get why people don't want anything to do with him, though.
Even a well established coach would have taken a few years to get us to Atlanta so I am just going to enjoy what I hope to be a high scoring team that us fun to watch. The only thing I have enjoyed during the last two coaches with their anemic offenses was watching Dobbs run when the play broke down. So frustrating

If this year is rough we have issues. We are playing a pretty cupcake schedule. We barely lost production players…..

2 RBs who stat wise was average
2 Receivers also stat wise average
1 OL who under performed
1 QB who was terrible and 1 QB who we don’t know what could happen
1 Lockdown Corner
1 Decent Strong Safety
1 didn’t really lose anything along the DL
1 Good LB…..

I mean that’s really about it…. If we can’t replace those we have bigger issues.
The way I think about it, there are four teams we are clearly better than (the three cupcakes and Vanderbilt), three teams we are clearly worse than (Alabama, Florida, UGA), and then a bunch of teams I feel like we could beat or could beat us on any given Saturday. I don't expect us to blow out Kentucky or Mizzou or Ole Miss or South Carolina or Pitt. That means 1-score games, in which Heupel seems to struggle. I'm just not very optimistic, but could well be wrong and frequently am.

Mizzou is a train wreck, South Carolina sucks, we will wax Kentucky especially if we have decent QB play. Those are 3 wins right there, then we definitely beat Vanderbilt and the 3 cupcakes. That right there is 7 wins.

I think our ceiling is 8 regular season and our floor is 7 regular season.

Exactly, can’t square that circle

Every once in a while Butch's offense would really click and it could be a lot of fun to watch. But most of the time it's like you said -- frustrating.

I've just been so frustrated by each of the last two coaches. I feel like we could've been so much better than we were in basically each of their respective years here. Look at Pruitt -- there's no reason we shouldn't have made a bowl his first year. We had a 12-point lead on South Carolina we should've been able to hold onto and the fact that we got clowned by Mizzou and freaking Vanderbilt to end the year was a major red flag. Then in 2019 we had some fun moments but that could have been a 10-win team were it not for treating Georgia State like a scrimmage and one blown coverage at the end of the BYU game. Then in 2020 I felt like we really could have beaten Kentucky, Auburn, and Arkansas at the least to finish even, and yet we lost each game by double-digits. Maddening.

Is Mizzou a train wreck? I felt like they really had their moments last year and were showing out decently by the end. South Carolina I'll give you -- I could see us waxing them. Kentucky...I'm wondering if the last two years have given me a warped view. We were lucky to beat them in 2019 and then last year was just the most embarrassing display I think I've ever witnessed on the turf at Neyland Stadium. Maybe we'll go back to clowning them the way Butch was doing circa 2013-16.

There's no such thing as a sports hero.

Archie Manning. Sports hero and Dad hero.

Father to my sports hero. Peyton Manning.
Let’s throw Jason Witten in there too, since I played TE. Oh and Al Wilson because I also played LB. And Reggie White, because I met him at Tennessee and he was awesome!

My sports heroes are heroes because of the people that they are. And they also play sports.

JG lost the Kentucky and Georgia games single handedly lol.

Mizzou was okay after they switched QBs (too late btw) but our LBs and DBs killed us against Mizzou letting the Freshman QB throw all over us. Decent play from those two positions this year and we beat Mizzou easily.

Ya I don't think we have any business claiming wins over Mizzou, UK, USC, and Pitt ahead of time. Vandy I agree, that's a gimme. TTU and BG also. Have we already forgotten how horrible we were and how many players we lost? I think 6 wins is a reasonable expectation but I'm definitely not counting any more than those 3 as wins before the season.

Horrific injury

Thoughts and prayers LeBron 🙄

I’m way behind, but is he gonna be ok? Will the doctors save his arm? Thoughts and prayers. I’m 36 and I still remember the NBA days where players didn’t get maintenance days, didn’t flop, and didn’t advocate for Marxist politics. Those Bulls/Pacers and Bulls/Knicks playoff series were must see tv. Now I have no idea which teams are good anymore. On a more serious note, anyone who says LeBum is better than MJ, Kobe, Bird, Magic, or Kareem can’t be taken seriously.

“Hold that thought, we’ll circle back to this in September”

Ceiling is 9 wins in the regular season. I agree with your 7. I see Pitt and Ole Miss as toss ups, meaning we could win or lose, so that's a possible 9.

And then there's my fantasy where we beat Florida.

The key to the season is Heupel's offense clicking and doing what it's supposed to do. The defense should be serviceable. I doubt it's great, but it should be able to do what it needs to. Personally, I'd still love to have one more ILB, but I think we'll be okay with what we have.

I'm really ready for football season to be here.

Bumphus, Butler, Middleton...other RETURNING seniors who were able to return because last season didn’t count against eligibility. They don’t count against our 85 man roster limit.
Having a blonde moment... I got that part, but don't understand how that makes us under.
Edit... So you're saying the ones who said we are full at 85 are wrong because they're counting those seniors. So we could actually have more players if we had scholarships. Not sure what I was thinking.

So, we can keep fishing in the transfer portal for at least, what, around 5 more players before it counts against our 85?

If that's the case, I would take a chance on the Michigan ILB, Jordan Anthony.

He wants to come here.
A former 5* who hasn't really panned out in Ann Arbor, but a change of scenery might light the fire. And we could use another LB.

I don't disagree we could use another ILB, but we haven't pursued Anthony, and the fact we have his former coach on staff and we're not pursuing the kid speaks volumes IMO. Sometimes, 5*'s bust. And he transferred to Troy in the last couple of days, so he's now off the market.

Well, the thing is, Anthony never played for Jean-Mary, but perhaps Coach knows the kid by his rep. A piss-poor attitude displayed in one place , no matter how much a kid changers, can dog him forever.

EDIT: Didn't realize he had gone to Troy.

Good luck to the kid.
