Except these things aren't dessert. And no one advocating for them believes that they're free. We pay taxes, and we want our taxes to pay for healthcare, education, housing, instead of propping up puppet governments, arming autocrats and bombing children. What the US is doing is feeding it's "children" scraps, while they watch their "classmates"(the rest of the developed world) eat their basics. Meanwhile we have the biggest, most stuffed pantry in the world.
Bro.. What?!?

The same gov you think bombs children is the gov you want in control of your health, housing and complete education? 🤯

So if college student A becomes overwhelmed and they visit the "crying chamber", do the people there just let them cry their widdle hearts out until they dehydrate?

What happens most likely is that someone is overwhelmed(which happens to literally everyone at some point) they go into the Mindfulness Center and meet with a professional who can help them deal with that stress and anxiety so that they can learn to function in the face of it instead of wilting every time stress enters their life or worse, they just become numb to stress and all of a sudden they're 35 and instead of processing that anxiety and stress and finding solutions to fix it, they drown in alcohol or drugs, or a computer screen.

That sounds like to opposite of softness, but hey man, you do you.
So what exactly caused student A to become overwhelmed?
Did they have a family member die or get sick? Did their girlfriend/boyfriend break up with them and they can’t handle it? Are they hopelessly failing their classes? Any of the above, yes go see a counselor for help.
Did they get called a name? Are there not enough safe spaces on campus? Is there not enough of one race in their class or too many? Does the text book not cover every imaginable angle? Did they not get what they want? Are people not responding enough to their wants? Time to grow up.
Schools, businesses, and government are doing an injustice to these kids by trying to placate them. Life is not fair. It never has been and never will be. If it was fair, most people would not like the outcomes

In other words, you knew what he was talking about yet decided to take the an absolute literal approach for a perceived gotcha moment that happened to fail.

So.. Dishonest and not harsh. Thanks for confirming.

Chappelle didn't used to have worry about sponsorships being pulled from his show because comedy was just considered comedy and something audiences understood as light hearted.

In regards to all of this, I was once there man. I'm 33. Not some boomer. I get it. It's OK for a significant portion of the generation to share flaws. We all have them. The folly is when you try to fight every bit of criticism
I'm 32, and I'm not trying to argue that our generation doesn't suffer from vanity, or hypocrisy, or downright ****** behavior. But asking for healthcare and education from the worlds richest govt isn't a negative. For some reason people in America think that these things have to be expensive. They don't. We could still, by a long way, spend the most money on our military AND fix one or more of these issues(healthcare needs to be the one, IMO).

World's richest? We're in massive debt. We are about to get smacked in the dick for their spending. The reason education is so expensive is because of the gov and now you want to argue to give them the full reigns?

To be fair, what the federal government is "meant to do" is such a broad, ever-changing term that it's impossible to pin it down.

No it isn't. Read the Constitution. International diplomacy, national defense, and regulating interstate commerce is about the extent of it. The 10th amendment reserves everything else to the states, but the states have slowly allowed the federal government to chip away and take more and more power. Now the federal government has it's hands in so many cookie jars and so many people depend on them that it is almost impossible to extricate from it. The states are starting to push back and give the double middle fingers to the feds.

Dude. We are broke. We are trillions of dollars in debt and sinking fast. We spend almost $400 billion dollars per year just to pay the interest on our debt. If our government tried to pay for all of the stuff you want we would have astronomical income tax rates and we would collapse into USSR style bread lines within a decade. Holy crap. This is the stuff I'm talking about that makes your generation soft.

Do you think I'm advocating that they tell me what I learn, what I take, and where I live? You have such a warped view, not only of government, but the government I and many are asking for. I don't understand how you see "redirect my tax dollars" and register "tell me how to live and think" because there are so many countries, capitalist countries that provide these things and have people who think and live freely.

I want my tax money to go towards making healthcare affordable for as many people as possible, making housing for as many people as possible, AND/OR getting as many people as possible an education such that they can support themselves and their families with their skills(especially including vocations). And we can do that, as has been shown by many other countries, over many different economic styles. What I don't want is my tax dollars going towards toppling governments that cut off resources to American or Western backed multinationals or propping up dictatorships or bombing places indiscriminately because our allies say that there is probably terrorists there, but really it's just people that don't like that regime oppressing their people.

Asking a serious question. I’m not on either side. So when are we every gonna pay of this debt? 2. Why in the heck would anybody allow someone to get that much in debt.

So if people in TN don't buy $60k F150s then Ford will either lower the price in TN or they just won't sell as many. The free market works if you let it. The more the gubment meddles the more screwed up it gets. That goes for everything. The gubment is corrupt and inefficient. When it gets its fingers in the pie then the supply/demand curve gets jacked up.

My little budding Libertarian. Makes me so proud of you my son.

How about the government stops taking so much of your money and you can afford your own healthcare, education and housing?

As for the foreign intervention, I agree there. Get the hell out of other countries. A lot of evil greed has permeated our government for decades in that regard. Time to end it.

We already pay the money, we want it redirected! It's the third time I've explicitly said it.

And they have made getting student loans so easy that everyone goes to college so supply and demand curve is jacked up. Kids are going to college and majoring in Gender Studies and then they graduate with $100k in student load debt and get a job working for a non-profit making $30k a year and can't figure out why they can never get those loans paid off. Meanwhile, Jim didn't go to college. He went to trade school and became a plumbers apprentice. He is making $30k per year too with no debt and will be making $75k in 5-10 years and still have no debt. College gender studies grad's earning potential maxes out around $50k and they have the anchor of student load debt their entire life.

We agree on this but do you understand why? Why we go fight a war with Iraq in 1991 who we just armed the decade before, why we send aid to *insert African or South American dictatorship here* to fight *such and such socialist/communist rebels*. It's not because we're spreading capitalism to make these countries better. It's because as a superpower we're extracting resources out of these countries. And that's not me saying capitalism bad, socialism good. These developing nations usually are a mess no matter what economic system they use, because when the colonialists left them, there was no power structure because under colonialists they took orders and sold their citizens and resources, and when they lost that the power vacuums swallowed these nations whole. China is putting on a masterclass on how to colonize and so few are paying attention that it's going to be a real shocker when Africa starts developing and they all owe China a massive debt, but that's a different subject.

Like I say...People are stupid. The libs win them over with promises of utopia, what the idiots don't realize is that Utopia looks like the USSR. The party elite pigs get it all, and the working party horse gets truly and utterly worked to death.
Every person I have ever spoken with who supports that sort of system believes that they will be one of the ruling class. None of them think they will be a plebe. The reality is that those people are usually the second group to be eradicated. Hitler did it to the brownshirts and Stalin did it to the Trotskyites.

I understand more than you could ever know. As good as this country is and the freedoms we enjoy, there is a dark, dark side to our government that has costed us thousands and thousands and thousands of young men and women's lives in the guise of "protecting our freedom." Our government owes so many families an apology for that lie.

And yes that does not even touch on our clandestine activities to influence third world governments.

Short term, yes. Longer term I think we face Japan-style deflation. The ridiculous government debt load will bog down the economy. An aging population will weigh on us. Higher unemployment and 1% economic growth is going to start becoming the norm... government will probably wish for higher inflation to inflated away the debt (since it is all dollar-denominated). ...But that’s ok. The debt will fund a “fairer” economy. ;-)
Deflation would be scary. Not much worse than deflation for an economy.
