Do you think I'm advocating that they tell me what I learn, what I take, and where I live? You have such a warped view, not only of government, but the government I and many are asking for. I don't understand how you see "redirect my tax dollars" and register "tell me how to live and think" because there are so many countries, capitalist countries that provide these things and have people who think and live freely.
What capitalist countries provide these things and allow people to THINK and live freely? There are none btw. All have speech laws.

I want my tax money to go towards making healthcare affordable for as many people as possible, making housing for as many people as possible, AND/OR getting as many people as possible an education such that they can support themselves and their families with their skills(especially including vocations). And we can do that, as has been shown by many other countries, over many different economic styles.
In regards to health care: gov will not and cannot fix it. Gov is inefficient and gov being a decider on your Healthcare is harmful. Just because there is a single payer system, does not mean medical debt is nonexistent. Private care will sky rocket, additional types of debt will surface, etc.

I'll give you a good example from England. My wife's cousin had a herniated disc. Couldn't work because of it. The gov said the soonest he could schedule the surgery was a year out because it wasn't life threatening. BTW, if it was me, an American, I have surgery that day. So he had two options 1. Go into massive debt to pay more for private surgery or 2. go into debt and risk the assets he worked hard to pay for by not working for a year. No, the company is not required to figure his duties out to maintain pay. His parents pulled their retirement to help him pay for private surgery. If only he went to another doctor to.. Oh wait... It's single payer. Shame. If he was able to take a plane with his injury, he would have had it here for alot less.

For the ones on the bottom of the wage earnings, they can recieve Medicare and medicaid and that has a ton of flaws within the programs.. Who runs it? Gov.

In regards to education: The current issue we have right now are worthless majors and degrees being pursued by the individual and the high costs due to the gov check being absolute. Get rid of gov loans, the prices will fix themselves and be more affordable. Your preferred policy to give it more to gov is self harm

What I don't want is my tax dollars going towards toppling governments that cut off resources to American or Western backed multinationals or propping up dictatorships or bombing places indiscriminately because our allies say that there is probably terrorists there, but really it's just people that don't like that regime oppressing their people.
Oh stop it, Jenny Gump. Fwiw, our common ground is probably in the realm of pulling our troops back home and staying out of those fights. I agree with that. Also we may find common ground on pulling our money from international orgs and defense spending.

We already pay the money, we want it redirected! It's the third time I've explicitly said it.

What money? ~60% of our federal spending is mandatory spending and dedicated to SS/Medicare/Disability/Medicaid/Other programs. Another 15% goes to defense, which is one of the only things the feds should be doing in the first place. About 8% goes to service the debt. That leaves only 15% of discretionary spending which includes education, foreign aid, agriculture, infrastructure, arts, science, etc. So where would you like to take the money from to pay for all of the things you want the feds to pay for you?

And they have made getting student loans so easy that everyone goes to college so supply and demand curve is jacked up. Kids are going to college and majoring in Gender Studies and then they graduate with $100k in student load debt and get a job working for a non-profit making $30k a year and can't figure out why they can never get those loans paid off. Meanwhile, Jim didn't go to college. He went to trade school and became a plumbers apprentice. He is making $30k per year too with no debt and will be making $75k in 5-10 years and still have no debt. College gender studies grad's earning potential maxes out around $50k and they have the anchor of student load debt their entire life.

I've never once met a Gender Studies major, but maybe that's because I spent most of my time at community college. Also I agree that there needs to be more awareness about vocations. I graduated from a private school and we didn't have so much as a shop class. Vocations weren't simply ignored, they actively tried to steer me into engineering by saying it pays better, largely ignoring my godawful track record with math(I didn't even take Trigonometry in HS) when I needed to be in welding or metal fab/HVAC to have the skills to do what I wanted to do(Motorsports).

Defense, like I've said at least three times before in this thread, today. 25 percent of 1.48 trillion dollars is 378 billion dollars. It's not gonna house everyone, or heal everyone, or educate everyone, but it's better spent there than in the hands of contractors or dictators

I’m excited to have an offense that can score. At least the games might be fun to watch.

Willie M - meh. Our DBs underachieved when he was here before. Georgia fans didn’t like him either. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Think our defense is gonna be pretty rough for a few years.
I feel like WM was way undervalued as our coach.....
Here are his stats ranked in the SEC first by comp% allowed and 2nd by yards allowed
2013 3rd. 7th
2014. 4th. 4th
2015. 2nd. 9th
2016. 4th. 10th
Pruitts years
2018 12th. 2nd
2019. 7th. 4th
Some of the best Vols years since 2001
2001. 3rd. 5th
2006. 8th. 5th
2007. 10th. 11th
Lane Kiffins year
2009. 8th. 4th
Georgia stats
2001 11th. 9th
2002 8th. 9th
2003. 4th. 1st
2004. 6th. 6th
I know that a lot more goes into these stats than just DB play but his years were definitely some of our best...... he is hated at Georgia bc he is a horrible D/C....... we didn’t hire him for that position..

While I can guarantee that there are savings to be had in the defense budget, we do still have enemies in this world and they are developing offensive capabilities to harm us. I'm speaking most directly about the CCP. They have done war games recently that indicate that we would get our azzes handed to us quick, fast, and in a hurry if we went to war with China right now. I don't really think now is the time to cut our defense budget in order to make your lollipop dreams and candy cane wishes come true. If the defense budget needs an over haul (and it does) it needs to be from preventing retired senior leaders from getting multi million dollar a year jobs in the military industrial complex and lobbying their former colleagues and subordinates to buy the next whizzbang vehicle from Lockheed or Oshkosh.

Like someone said earlier. Maybe the federal government can not take so much of our money and then we can pay for all those things ourselves!!!

What is the cost for a pair. I want to go to a practice round.
My wife wanted to surprise me with an early birthday present so she bought a ticket for the Wednesday Par 3 contest ($1200) and the Saturday round ($1600). That was a couple of years ago when rain washed out the Wednesday Par 3 round and they evacuated the course because of lightening-----no refund either :):):):). Normal tickets are around $175 Thursday through Sunday. Ticket brokers have a field day with this tournament.

That was me Glitch. Your daddy.

So how much is unemployment right now. I heard the corona money was ended in June. I just lost my job last week because I was new hire and missed too many days because I tore cartilage in my knee again. I have never had unemployment and don't even know how to start it. But I think I need to right now if it is still 600 a week. Would help till I get better enough to get back to working. Old job was one of the best I ever had, hated that I got injured again before insurance kicked in. They said they want me back when I get Fixed, can't do nothing without insurance right now tho, so I am kinda stuck in a rut.
The unemployment benefit from the government is $300 per week now plus whatever your normal state unemployment benefit is. The government $300 per week is supposed to run through September as part of the Biden Coronavirus stimulus package.

Housing, education and healthcare is affordable in Japan and they have freedom of speech as well.

Honestly a good point, definitely one I can't argue.

You are focusing way too much on post secondary graduation, there's so much more that we can do to round out and improve education before college, and so much more that we need to do for teachers and students at the K-12 stage. With more programs like the Promise and Reconnect scholarships, I think you'd solve a lot of issues with post secondary graduation. But K-12 needs a massive rethink. There is so much missing out of the curriculum that would help HS graduates learn how to cope in today's world. Math is so integral to daily life but, at least when I was in school, none of the math was relevant to how I do math in my daily life. I'm good at it, and thankfully I had a banker as a parent, which helps, but it only helps so much.

This is exactly the type of cutting I and others want to see.

If China wants to go to war with us its not going to be with platoons and fleets and formations. They'll just disrupt our economy and watch us eat each other alive. And as this pandemic showed and is showing, we've got absolutely no defense for that.

Here I go again being a commie, but infrastructure needs to be addressed as well. Would be a job creator and the best way forward for mobility for well over half the country. Public transport is atrocious, the highway system is archaic and crumbling as well.

Hey boss--LOVE that area and the MTB...AWSOME! Over the Edge Bike shop is a must if you MTB. Is that your rental house or are you renting it? I'm normally up that way a dozen times a year with Lees Ferry and Lake Powell kind of close.
We are renting it for ten days. Very hot here!

Simply not true. Even if it was you can’t live off of that.

Hey, isn’t this a football thread? 🥸

You can’t? My monthly bills/expenses are totaled around $1500 a month. That’s 2400 a month plus 1500 thrown in every 6 months. I could easily live off of it. I mean good lord it’s 32,000 a year to do nothing
