12 team playoff is meh.

Make it a 32 team playoff. Play 9-10 regular season games plus conference championship. Then take the top 1 or 2 teams from each conference or however the NCAA determines the seeds for basketball, do the same. Whoever gets to the championship is still only playing 15-16 games a year so we would still be playing the same amount games.

Sounds stupid, but imo it gives more teams a chance to play for something rather than a meaningless Nacho Cheese Bowl. Would you rather have a sweet 16 or the Nacho Cheese Bowl?
Wouldn’t work taking the top from each conference. Would be WAY less competitive than the bowl games. The first couple rounds wouldn’t be fair at all. It would have to just be the top teams in the pole, regardless of conference IMO

One problem we’re going to see here are issues like we just saw with Dwayne Haskins in Washington. It was said that Haskins was more worried about his brand than developing his skills and that’s why he fell out of favor with the Coaches. So I would tell a young man like Salter to not put the cart before the horse, and he needs to get in there and work hard to put himself in a position to take advantage of notoriety. It’s an old fashioned concept that means you aren’t given anything, you earn it.
I wonder if all the money raised for his dad has anything to do with him thinking he might be paid before he does anything at UT

But the hope would be that eventually more of the best players would go to other teams than the 5 or 6 teams that are going to make the playoffs every year. As long as there are 4 spots, there are going to be those few teams loaded with the top 100 players while everyone else has those teams that can't compete.

This. I think talent would be fairly more even, cause like you said, kids want to play for the playoff teams.

This kid needs to focus on balling out. Successful QBs won't need to beg for endorsement deals.

Gave up trying to reply, Trippie. Don't know what happened, but I agree in general.

Which is why I am in favor of the 16 team playoff as my first choice. The build-up to the NC would be incredible as would the financial payout. The lesser seeded teams would be given a fair shot and would absolutely know what they had to do in the future to make it to the FF. Over the course of several seasons there would be enough participants involved that parity in recruiting would begin to break the stranglehold of the top 4-5 programs. All we have to do is look at college basketball and baseball to see how it would open things up. The talent is getting more balanced. You have to bring your A game every time or risk getting knocked out. Same could happen in CFB if they would go this route.

Yeah, maybe 32 teams would be overkill, but what you just said was the main point I was trying to make. Recruiting, recruiting, recruiting, would break the stronghold of the usual top 4-5 teams and things would start to even out.

We are totally on the same page. Which is why the good ole boys of the AA keep trying to end run major change. The 12 team just eases their pets into the playoffs with a bye. I would rather have your 32 team than that. Level the playing field. Anything short of that is just more cronyism. Do like baseball and give home field advantage for a round or two to the higher seeds if they have earned it with SOS and record.

Again, all we have to do is look at the excitement and money with what has happened to basketball and baseball to know how it would go.

My prediction: The kid does nothing but try to make money off his name while he is here and eventually goes back home to play close to his family. All I've seen from this dude is trouble.

Agree - this is not starting off well. He could transfer at any point back to a Texas school and go Mahomie.

Read this last year. Nailed your points before it even started.
In Dwayne Haskins, Redskins Are Getting a QB and a Brand

ACvol said it wouldn't fair and all the lower seeds would be killed, but like, basketball does it and we see upsets alllllll the time. I think it would eventually work and over time, teams will be more balanced or that's the idea.

Lol…Braves. They suck because Catbone is probably a fan.
So…you’re a Braves fan? If so, between the 80’s and a few short years ago…suck is relative. I remember hoping we would finish above last. Then we graduated to “sucking” because we “only won one World Series”.

Lol…I know. I remember those years. Cool story…one fall when I was a teenager, we were rolling someone’s yard one night, and we stopped for a little bit to watch the Braves in the playoffs through the window to see what the score was. Lol!!

If we believe in Heup, then we should believe it would work. Look what his undermanned UCF team did against that strong LSU team in that bowl game his first season as HC. Gave them all they wanted plus some. HS kids watch those games and include potential teams in their visits and camps. Some lower seeds may get boat raced initially. There will also be an upset or two each year as it builds. The committee that selects and the conferences that send their champions to the playoffs may figure out they need to schedule tougher to build their programs and brands as well. It will not be an overnight thing. but the end result would be great for the sport and fans. March Madness is as good as it gets for college ball. Who can say the same thing about BCS college football today? If they are honest - nobody. Same small group of teams nearly every year.
