If he bolts I believe most of the blame is timing. Vitello may think the university slow played the plans of stadium renovations. Of course I'm sure UT was waiting to see some tangible success. It just so happens success and the opening of what many perceive to be the best college baseball job in the country came along at exactly the same time.
Tennessee is prepared to pay upwards of 2 million. LSU is willing to go higher. Bianco is out, he just signed an extension. O'Connor makes no sense, he got hot at the right time to get to omaha, but their overall record is average.
That's been my whole thing since I first posted LSU was a scary threat for TV weeks ago. Not going to blame TV either way...but a lot of people seemed ready to blame DW bigly if LSU gets TV. I just think that's BS. LSU baseball is elite. We could very well offer TV the world and it wouldn't matter. It may be out of DW's hands, but some don't want to accept this. Shouldn't be a knock on him if TV wants to go that route. The Matt Campbells of the world are extremely rare.Don’t get me wrong I’m not head over heels about DW, but he’s gonna get unnecessary blame if TV leaves.. the money is gonna be there on both sides, but we neglected baseball for so long he might not be willing to wait 2-3 years for renovations to take place. Hoping for the best, seems like he really does love Knoxville
explained the point a few posts down.I don't mean to sound harsh, but this just shows how little you actually know and follow college baseball. Between this thread and the baseball board, you have done nothing but trumpet doom and gloom about Vitello and the "he gone" narrative.
O'Connor "got hot at the right time"? O'Connor has made 15 NCAA Tournament appearances, 7 Super Regionals, 5 trips to Omaha, and has a national title. He isn't just "hot at the right time" he is a really good coach.
If you're going to be the leader of the "Tony Vitello is Leaving" bandwagon, you should at least do some research first.
Does Vitello have some connection to LSU or is it just because they're a traditional baseball power?
Nah but if you're not a die hard Tennessee fan (Which Tony is not) of course you're going to go to LSU who has more resources, money, and better chances of winning.Zero connections. It's just the fact LSU is a premier baseball program.
History is just that though....history. Tennessee is a wealthy school in their own right. We're not going to just let Vitello walk.
That's what I thought. I think he stays. We're literally going to build him whatever ballpark he wants. That's pretty fun and enticing. We'll pay him. We'll build his park. Give him top notch facilities. He stays!Zero connections. It's just the fact LSU is a premier baseball program.

whenever things like this happen, i put it in the context of professional sports because i have a loose allegiance to the Angels, but am nowhere near a diehard fan. So, I'm at an average franchise like the Twins.. and the Yankees offer me their manager position. Do I say no, regardless of what the Twins put on the table? Absolutely no ****ing way under any circumstances. That's what I thought. I think he stays. We're literally going to build him whatever ballpark he wants. That's pretty fun and enticing. So would anyone else with in his shoes.
I don't see it the same way. You can build a program up to Yankees level in college ball. Luckily, Tony Vitello is not Catbone or Christian Lowe, which means he is capable of thinking critically and isn't suffering from a case of Stockholm Syndrome. He is talented enough to win at Tennessee, and that might be all that matters to him. He'll get his pay day here, too.
so you're telling me that you wouldn't leave whatever job you have right now for more money, better resources to succeed, and more prestige?
