From a poster on VQ. Hopefully it’s true:

FWIW Saturday night I met several of CVTs high school and college friends in Omaha there to support him. They said theirs a zero percent chance he is leaving.

i ran into Connor Pav's dad at the supers and he said pretty much the same thing.. but Tony dropping a few "God I love it here!" statements to his friends and player's families can be twisted into a "he ain't going nowhere" sentiment.

so you're telling me that you wouldn't leave whatever job you have right now for more money, better resources to succeed, and more prestige?
Not if the first two is going to be offered to me by my current employer. You can create reputation anywhere. Clemson and Oregon did it in football, Vanderbilt in baseball, and Baylor in just about every sport.

timing is a factor. if alabama was struggling when dabo won his first ACC championship and offered him a job.. he would be gone.
Corbin would have been gone if someone else offered him early too.
Kelly did leave Oregon eventually.

I'll break this down piece by piece.

For me, personally? Correct. You cannot convince me the quality of life for a $2.2 million salary per year is that much better than $1.8 million - $2 million a year. Those are the reported "rumored" numbers we've heard. What could Tony buy with $2.2 million per year that he can't buy for $2 million per year? Or $1.8 million....the difference in salary there is negligible in the grand scheme of things.

Prestige is overrated. How prestigious is Tennessee football? It used to be incredibly prestigious, and look at our dumpster fire of a program now. It seems the prestige has worn off a bit. Vanderbilt wasn't a prestigious baseball program until about 7-9 years ago, now it's a household name. You can build something at arguably any Power 5 conference if you're the right person for the job.

As far as the resources to succeed comment, LSU has better facilities at this moment in time, but TN is going to commit substantial funding this off-season to close the gap. TV is 42. If he keeps winning, the gap will only narrow even more and quickly. We're not a poor program.
Piggybacking. Louisiana has a 6% state income tax bracket for that salary.

I thought they may have let ballpark mess with their heads a little bit and changed their approach at the plate some…. Hope we can bounce back tomm.

If you ask me they were just trying to smash the ball. They just need to put the ball into play. Doesn’t matter where it goes as long as you are moving people on the bases.

Homeruns are nice but you need base runners as well. Maybe their hitting approach will be way different this next game. Like hey guys just put it into play make the defense beat you.

Yep. It's things like this people don't consider as well. If LSU offers $2.2 million, the only good that does him is the prestige of the number $2.2 million, but he is arguably just as well off with a salary of $1.8 million or $2 million in Tennessee where no state income tax exists. Our offer might look lower on paper, but it's purchasing power is the exact same.

Congratulations on using the crutch that is the singular instance of a head coach at the University of Tennessee leaving of his own accord in the past 3-4 decades of UT athletics. You and Christian must be sending each other a list of talking points.

I'm beginning to think @Catbone and @Christian Lowe are the same poster.

I think we all need to

So now we are comparing coaching in high school to coaching in college. Lol
Not at all. I'm saying that in the coaching business, and yes in Ga HS there are some parallels with College, coaches are seen as commodities. That's fair. But the other side of the coin is I would expect a Coach, even more so in College, to look after himself and family first. The condescending LOL was nice, though.

Listen... There are similarities here whether you choose to believe it or not.
